You know, like H2's engine? Don't spam me with the "GO BUY H2 THEN!!!1!!one!1eleven!" stuff. But still, I'd think we have to prove the game worthy of it.
I certainly don't want an entire engine change, just the major features such as aerial vehicle strafing, dual-wielding, boosting, etc. I know some of these are possible, but they're just imperfect.
Don't spam me with the "I doubt Bungie/Gearbox will release an engine update" stuff. I'm asking if the results are good. It wouldn't neccessarily take up H2's 7 GB or HD, since it's (usually) the SP and MP maps that take up much space, especially for CE.
Ed: Yeah, I know Bungie likely wouldn't because it's like you bought H2 for free. Just before I get humiliated with that answer.

Halo is an old game. Halo 3 has at least 300,000 players at any given time, while Halo PC has only 3,000 on its best days, and Halo CE isn't even close to that, with barely 200 players a day. Plus, Microsoft/Bungie/Gearbox aren't making money on this game any more. Of course everyone who plays the game wants it updated, but that "everyone" is a very small number. It's not going to happen, as much as we'd like it to.

A new version of Halo CE with those sort of features would be cool. Like Halo CEX (Halo Custom Edition Extra). But I would not change Halo CE entirly.
When I got university next year there is a part of the course I may be doing which si reverse engineering. So I could try to reverse engineer HaloCE and maybe try and add features. But I doubt I will be able to.

Like anon said, the halo's gameplay is fine the way it is, but if the netcode was upgraded and there was better rendering.. yum.

Karrde (hope I spelt it right) is right, Halo is an old game. It was made around 8 or 9 years ago so of course it's engine is going to have alot of limits, but we have seen that those limits have been push as far as they can or that much as been made even with those limits. Also I wish there would be some sort of update to the engine OS was sort of close in a sense and it allows for some new features and possabilities with those features, but there's no reason to do so. Halo CE is not a profit especially when most of the coummity has praited the game (which is only like what $20 now?, how cheap can you be!?) so I don't see a reason for them to update the engine or any update of any sorts at all. So basicy I wish but unlikely.

They could at least implement dual-wielding. But since HCE is legal modding, can someone re-engineer HCE's engine? By the time I take up software courses there would only be... say 30 players a week? It's 3 freakin' years. But... I SHALL RETURN!!! Let it die.

I want the engine to be changed , and better netcode. Seeing as it will never happen , because GearBox , Microsoft and Bungie wont get anything out of it , it means no. The thread can die now.

There's not much you can change anyway. Maybe with OS you could do some stuff, but nothing too drastic like syncing AI or changing perms :\

They did change the Halo 1 game engine. They did it twice. They called it Halo 2 and then Halo 3.

So, wait, just a quick question, when making H3, did bungie just use advanced versions of the HEK? Because I know there was a HEK for H2V so I know they made H2 with it, but just wondering about H3.

No. They built each engine specifically for each of their games from the ground up, until now for ODST.

The tools they used to make Halo 3 were probably similar to the HEK that we use now.

Yes ^
They would program tools like HEK. Otherwise they would have to hard code each tag ect... Most games have some sort of editing kit which the developers use.

If netcode is written badly then calculations and stuff may be slow. or faulty. Which makes lag.

Why would they even think of using different tools than what they did with Halo 1? Make it more complex for them? If you had the Halo 3 Limited/Legendary Edition you got a disk that told you how Halo 3 was made. One part of the video showed a Bungie Employee opening up Tsavo Highway with Sapien, and explained Trigger Volumes. So yes, they do use the same kit, just edited to fit the engine they are using.

Like dennis said they did upgrade the engine and fix all these problems. Halo 3 is the final result. How do some of you not understand this? They did not build a whole new engine for halo 2 or 3 they just made it better. End of story.
Also i did try to remake it but it isn't worth it because only a select few could run it. Edited by JHOW2 on Jul 3, 2009 at 09:52 PM

No. If you can figure out how this engine works, and what it can do, you can create some pretty decent stuff, it just takes time, and learning thats all.

So in a nutshell (long story short), we wish that engine for halo could be better, it has been updated as h2 and h3, OS is sort of an engine update in a way, the engine is good for what it provides so far, and as much as want, beg, or whine h1's engine cannot be change at this point/time and we can't do jack. Am I in the ballpark?
