Just leave it alone, it's too old for change.

To be honest, Halo CE's engine kind of sucks.
The modding limitations that come with HEK are ridiculous. It's based on variable editing rather than scripting like most mod-friendly games such as Quake, Unreal and Half Life. Unreal Engine 3 and Source have much more potential behind the editing kits. Modern games are being made on those engines, where as Halo CE's engine is outdated and limited. The only other game to my knowledge that was made on Halo 1's engine was Stubbs the Zombie.
Not to mention Halo's modding community is chock full of pointless drama over the stupidest things like "Credit" or "Ripping," unlike any other modding community. Edited by Marka Haiyana on Jul 4, 2009 at 04:42 AM

Limitations? I see dont see many. Look at H2V... that is limited. You can make anything you want on Halo:CE, but you cant on H2V.

... You're serious? Here's Halo 1. 1. Crosshairs don't animate based on innacuracy. 2. There's no way to improve accuracy while you're crouching or walking. 3. There's no way to make a weapon bring the camera to 3rd Person. 4. All vehicles have to follow a pre-defined set of rules. 5. There's no way to improve the netcode, while there is a simple mod that fixes it in UT. 6. You can only play as one biped, you can't choose what you want to play as 7. Limited to two firing modes, and then you'll have to disable grenades. 8. Limited to TWO GRENADES. 9. No ragdoll. The list goes on, I'm too lazy to think of any more. And this kind of stuff you'll NEVER see in Halo: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8fkwFtiC-Jshttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z4TSLdXc04Ihttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1WI70M8yJS0http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oLyciaHOkIshttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v7O97XOAx9kAll of those are third-party user-created non-profit mods. Halo's editing kit, rather than using a scripting language for everything, uses variable editing. That, with the hardcoded stuff, limits the Halo engine, where as you can do ANYTHING you want in an engine like Unreal Engine 3 or Source. Edited by Marka Haiyana on Jul 4, 2009 at 07:29 PM

I mean there are not many things which we can't change for Halo:CE which is built into the game. Not new features like what you posted.

The only real things I would like to see to be changed in Halo CE's engine is AI's that can sync and you can walk/stand on a vehicle without getting killed for going 5 mph. (like the H3 Elephant.)

Since they practically tell us how to tags are hard coded without tool, why not reverse engineer tool, and try it on halo 2 since it **already comes with a battle rifle (no offense)**well, CE's battle rifle sucks :\
and work from there?

I'm pretty sure it's the same engine. If they updated it then they'd have to update Halo 3's since the game will be playing side by side with Halo 3's multiplayer. Although it will be on a different disc. That's why they are calling it Halo 3: ODST.

yeah, it would be nice for people to port their halo mods to other better game engines, but i'm sure that'll require more effort.

OS and Cerebrum-Synapse seem good enough for me until (if) something even better comes along.
