Durr. You should definitely use a cubemap... BUT I SUGGEST that you use a cubemap that looks like a gradual progression from light on the top to dark on the bottom. I have a couple like this being stored on DVDs and on skydrive, not public, though. If you are interested, maybe you can PM me and maybe I can email it to you or something (Windows 98SE does not work with xfire installers anymore, so... pfft. Forget Xfire.)

Yeah, but I'm liking the darker and not too shiny coloring on the armor, that's a fact.

you cant make the warthog have bump maps.

What mine does is that it DOESN'T look like chrome, it looks like it has highlights, like its lit by the sun.

Here is ... basically... my message, edited:

There are a couple of ways I think Spartan might go to making his hog "bump mapped":

1) bake the bump/normal map into the texture (works, but I would rather do something else, read on)

2) Use a shader_environment on the warthog (FAIL. This is why the draco doesn't even have detail maps on the outside. Shader_environment does not work on vehicles or bipeds, etc.)

What I would do is the same as #1, but I would put the bump on the multipurpose instead. This makes the object appear to be bumped when the reflection is seen. Of course, this works best with those gradient cubes I mentioned.

First one is the only way you can make any non structural object have the appearance of bump maps. Otherwise you can not give a non structural object real bump maps. Not possible in this engine.

I prefer to do mine on the multipurpose maps, depending on the texture it is on.

As for the warthog tires, though, I would rather put the bumps on the texture, as those things look ugly without the bump.

No, you got it partially wrong.
The bump will appear to fade at places where the reflection is less powerful.

There is no way to use a dynamic bump map on a non-glass or non BSP object.

Unless he is using GLASS SHADERS. Those can be bumped, even on non-BSP. I have seen it done on the pelicans in RPG_beta4 (NOT 4-4) and I have done it myself on the warthog's windshield.

Tone down the size of the pictures a bit guys or put a link. Update on my mod is tomorrow. I plan to unveil some things no one has heard about before. Aside from that:

-Spartan, xfire nao.

-HDoan, watch your posts.

-TCEM is getting more organized.

Enjoy the day or two before the update. It'll either give a tiny bit to look forward to, or make you want to hate it. Either way, I don't care. Blah blah blah blah blah.....

Not bump maps. AO rendered in the texture and multipurpose map red blue channel is replaced with AO map and maybe spec map. Halo CE does not support bump mapped dynamic objects. This is why that dynamic objects and scenery do not receive bullet holes when you shoot them. The only think that supports bump maps and bullet holes is the BSP.

The multipurpose is gross. I would like to make some small edits to it and give you a cubemap that actually looks realistic... because what you have makes even the rubber parts look like they are glass.

Okay, picture update time. Credit for the AR multipurpose goes to IV because it's his that went with Tazz's texture pack.


A common encounter you'll see in the mod. B30 was interesting when I played it.lol.

Took these pics yesterday. I had to do something with b30. I think the stuff I had at first was just plain funny. The Pelican spawned me under the water and we ran up the beach and started the attack there.lol. It was interesting, but screwy and you had to quit at the end to go to AotCR. Floyd, I think I was being serious when I said something about volcanoes and lava on b40.lol. We'll see though, nothing is definite.

that is a ma5k no doubt, and why are you making an sp mod? cant anyone make something from the floor themselves? it doent have to be some epic story, just some decent thought put into an sp bsp and gameplay is all.

Well, it's just something I wanted to do and see for myself what would happen. It has also helped me better with teamwork and interacting with people over the internet. I can't model now with school in progress and all, but I plan to get back to mapping AFTER the mod is done with.

this is exactly my opinion. The lack of good SP maps out there is horrifying.

maps like truth island sp part 1, etc are very simple maps but offer good gameplay.....too bad everyone just mods the sp campaign -.-

If you're going for a night sky, at least make it much brighter than that. You also should run lightmaps on that BSP. The night sky contrasts way too sharply with the bright geometry.

Ah, okay. I definitely like the night sky idea for b30, it's just that I see a lot of mods that have sky changes without new lightmaps to match them, which looks bad.
