Well, I will be patient and eagerly await any updates for Adjutant's H4 functionality.
You know jackrabbit, for someone who claims to hate H4 so much, you sure do beg for its content a lot...

This coming from the primary advocate for releasing unfinished, broken or otherwise unsuitable content.

WTF ARE YOU EVEN TALKING ABOUT?

Yeah, no. I and other people are working on Adjutant as a labour of love. I'm personally pecking away at it with my limited C# knowledge, but I alone am not getting very far.

It's true, others more than likely have private builds in the work that have more content available, but unless I'm presented with those tools, I choose to work on the assumption that they either won't be released or are going to take a long time to be made public, and continue to work on Adjutant as the community's current best bet for complete asset extraction.

As for everything else: it's the community's lack of gratitude -yours in particular, Jackrabbit - that has left the rest of us without complete asset extraction tools. Maybe, just maybe, exercising a little gratitude towards the people working on these tools would stand the community in good stead for tools being released more quickly and the development of those tools being made more public and transparent. It's the foul behaviour that we've seen in the past that discourages people from developing and releasing their work.

Bear that in mind.
Aside from speeking with gravemind.one time!

I have nothing to do with Adjutant at all! and saying I have lack of gratitude just make you look Dumb! It has absolutely Nothing to do with me what so ever. and I think everyone here knows that.

Why don't you stick your finger back in your But! where you pulled it out from.
because pointing at me is getting you nowhere!

& BTW I don't hate you .I just hope your next period happens in a shark tank !!!

Where and why would I do that? & when exactly did I say I HATED halo4? although I do I never remember saying that. if anything I was referring to how the majority of the the public feels.

@ElijahB1 Yeah I was just trying to answer the question to the best of my ability. obviously since You are on the ADJ team you know far more then I do I was just referring to what Grave Mind told me months ago.

And for the record aside from personal issue with Rosanna Weyland's mouth There is no lack of gratitude from me.

I really appreciate what you are doing. But I am also Hoping to see Assembly doing the exact same thing ADJ does only better. But I am just a software user with his fingers crossed.

Well, things have changed a lot in the past few months and we haven't really talked about it, so it's understandable that there may be some old info out there. Down the road the Assembly extractor may grow into something much better than ADJ because of how well we all now understand the formats, the raw, and everything else plus ASM has been built up from the ground by the ASM team. There may even be a far better tool developed at some point that is better than anything we have had before. We are not working on this tool for fame or the like, just want a tool that can allow people to make cool things with it and if another person or team develops it, all the more glory to them and good on them for all of their hard work and dedication.

On a side note, I feel that we are on the edge of some flame here, let’s play nice and not get dirty.

Yeah, no. I don't care what people say about not getting angry at special-ed kids, I'm not going to put up with that and let it slide.

If you want me and other people to continue to work on these applications, you'd do very well to remind yourself that it's attitudes like this that make people not want to release content to the community. Why the hell would we, when what we get in return are insults and death wishes? And that's before we even get into the general public getting up in arms when the tools are either kept back for polish, or released in beta format and found to be incomplete?

I'd like to take the time to remind you that, had the community (yourself included) not taken a collective dump on Gravemind, and actually taken the time to support his work and efforts, we might not be having this discussion. We might well have had full content extraction by now, but instead we have one disillusioned developer leaving the scene entirely, and handing over his program for other less-skilled people to finish.

Frankly, there's no pleasing people like you. There's little wonder that developers either keep their programs locked away, or drop support completely, when they have to deal with arrogant little tossers like you complaining at them every step of the way. However, there are solutions to this issue.

You can either:

A) Keep your critique more on the constructive side
or
B) Book up and try constructing a better program yourself

But since we all know you have the technical experience of rhino dung, we'll add in a third option that befits us all:

Shut up.. Until you've gone through the pains of working on an application, getting that application into a usable state, and then releasing that application, you have literally no place to be complaining, much less bandying about childish threats. Something about people in glass houses and rocks might be relevant here.

Regardless, what I said before remains true: there are likely superior programs out there that are going to function far better than Adjutant upon release. Software will always be surpassed by the next generation, but I deplore an unfinished program, which is why I will continue to work on Adjutant in my spare time as a labour of love as well as a learning exercise. Until I have updates for you I cannot and will not release any information. There's no point in doing so.

With that being said, I do happen to have a little addendum, which will be added to the OP:

Adjutant sometimes has issues with clearing out its temp files, particularly after batch asset extraction. This can generate a large backlog of data which will eventually eat up your hard drive's space. To clear this backlog, do a search for '%temp%' in your computer and delete the folder it brings up.

When did jackrabbit say he hated Halo 4? Hmmm... let's think...

"halo 4 was blech imo"
"halo 4 is yuckye"
"H4 sucked"

those are all copy-n'-pasted.

So guys, I notice that some H4 objects don't have diffuse maps, that or the diffuse maps are black and white. Is that an Adjutant problem or is that how the tags are?

Thanks for adding, after running tests I found that ADJ was doing that - Working on a fix.

"Where are my diffuse maps?"

Waffles, again, with an explanation:

Quote: --- Original message by: Waffles
There are two types of control bitmaps, type 1 is for materials with an RGB/ARGB diffuse map. Type 2 is for materials without a separate diffuse map, the diffuse maps are grey scale and stored in channel data.

control type 1 bitmaps
R=specular
G=specular-exponent
B=reflection

control type 2 bitmaps
R=specular/reflection
G=diffuse
B=specular-exponent
A=dual colour-change (black is secondary, white is primary)

Any bitmaps with the suffix multi, are control type 1. Examples of type 1 are usually weapon control maps/props/scenery. Examples of type 2 are all MP character models.

Also, illumination data is stored in the diffuse alpha channel where it applies. (Use common sense to tell what is transparency and what is illumination).

Diffuse maps
RGB=diffuse colour
A=illumination source

Otherwise h4 relies heavily on materials and default bitmaps for all other illumination (MP Spartans). They use geometry for shape, and a white texture that can be colour-changed.

Halo 4 isn't limited by pre-set bitmap configurations, the new material system allows for more flexibility in choosing what bitmap channel is what source (colour change/illumination/transparency)

incase its too hard to understand. If you cant find the Diffuse map, it's stored in the green channel of the Control bitmap.

Didn't try music, but FX and dialogues work.

idk what you are talking about... you can extract 477 music related files from Halo 3 alone.

I know this topic has been kinda dead for a bit, but lets try and stay on topic and not get all spammy.

Sorry for my absence, but college has taken much of my time. Now, on with business:

Q/A and NEWS!

Lets start with Q/A

Quote: --- Original message by: goldkilla88
Hello good sir, do you think you could add a button to the sound extractor that makes it so you can extract all of the sounds in a .snd! into a folder as separate files? The one now extracts them all but merges them into one file.

What exactly do you mean? Sounds extracted from Halo 3 can total 45,916 files in 15,016 folders, so I am confused as to what you are asking.. are you saying all the sounds you extract are in one sound file? This should not happen if that is the case.

When a HCEA update/plugin?
A lot of people really want it....

Yes, we are well aware that the assets in HCEA are being sought after, but the game stores files in a 100% different way than any other Halo title, so it bay be a long while still. Good news is that most of the HCEA models are ripped from Reach.

What is the recommended 3ds Max version that I should be using? I was using 3ds max 2012, but have moved around to see if there is a better version that works better with the Asset Importer for 3ds Max.

I did look through the Original Post, but did not see any indication of a recommended 3ds Max version. Any one know the best version?

Thanks

Max 8 would probably be best, some bones in assets import better in it than other versions. I am using Max13 though and have not experienced any ill effects other than one or two models that do not have proper bones. (By the way, bones usually don't work anyways with Reach models, wip)

So since not much has been said or asked about Adjutant itself. I will go ahead on ask.

Could we possible know what the current status is on it? I am not asking when it is going to be done, but more what has been done with the application since Gravemind stepped down. What has been completed? What is the next step to get Adjutant done? What are you currently working on withe Adjutant?

Would be nice to know something if possible. Better then being in the dark and not knowing anything. :P

Well, I am back, working on making the ultra glitchy Halo 4 DLC update less glitchy. You already have the content though soooooo, idk if there is much point in it now days lol.

The next step for ADJ is what it has been since the launch of the Halo 4 asset extraction code, to refine and make it more stable. This includes better extraction (having biped models with heads) and less models failing to load.

All of this will be made available when it gets done. I am not sure about the rest of you guys, but I have a job to work and have school to go to sooo that takes priority over the ADJ project. With that in mind however I have thought about bringing more people on to the new and reformed ADJ team to pick up the speed on development.

C: this post stills alive?

As far as I know, this thread and the program that it relates to...is dead. There has not been a real update about the going ons of Adjutant for quite sometime now. I don't think is will be being worked on for a long time, if ever. Sorry. Then again, I am not one of the team developers. Meaning I am just speaking from what I can see and tell.

Hopefully there is still some sort of progress going on. Though right now I sort of highly doubt it.

:( Sorry, been busy guys..

Still no good Halo 2 extractors.

After looking into this issue my self, DarkMatter is a pretty good app for extracting Halo 2 assets, though they are pretty lack luster given what other stuff you can get now.

OK, NOW FOR NEWS!

Working on stuff to make ADJ better is hard work, the app is kinda tricky, but progress is being made. Looking back on this past year we were able to provide sound extraction for Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST, and Halo: Reach, we were able to get 1/2 of Halo 4 support up and running and we improved over all quality of the app. Now we have had our fair share of problems too, Halo 4 Bipds missing heads, whole models failing to load, sound files not extracting with quality, and much more, but we are working to overcome these issues.

As we step into the new year let us look back on what we have done, and forward to what the new year may bring.

Basically, what Rosanna Wyland is trying to say is she is she thinks you should all show gratitude for work that isn't hers, and should kiss her high horse ass even though she's an ungrateful, rude, and egotistical asshole.

Luckily, I believe in helping people out of the goodness of my heart, so here's a Halo 4 Beta map for your enjoyment. It has the Revenant that was cut among other things. I just want you to remember each time you load it, that I am better than her and really awesome, while she is evil. Thank you!

Oh and I should mention, Rosanna has had this map for quite some time... she just didn't want to share it with you.

This is coming from the same person who said the quote below? That is so funny, because I more or less said the same thing to you that you are saying to him. Do you still stand by your original quote, or have you had a change of heart? The developers will not want to release programs whenever they are treated with nothing but hostility, as well as when people give no respect whatsoever to the people who did the actual work.

You have not done any of that, you are just trying to make heads or tails of Gravemind's code, which the majority of is not even his own code to begin with. The reason he left was because he could not figure anything out on his own. He had used up all of the public research already that had been released, and lacked the knowledge to do any on his own.

Did I? That's news to me. I suppose that next you'll be telling everyone I've got access to Hitler's secret stash of Nazi gold, and that I know where the Heart of the Ocean is. I'll bet it never occurred to you that I might not have that Beta map, or that I even knew of its existence? Of course not - I'm an evil hag withholding content from the community so I can have it all for myself. Insert an evil scientist's laugh here, now I think it's time for me to go flay the skin off some kittens. All because I didn't post something I didn't even know about. I truly am the next global despot.

To be perfectly honest with you, I don't care what you think about me. Really, I don't give a toss. Sit there and act like children, the lot of you - I've honestly seen more level-headedness and maturity from pre-schoolers. There are scarce few of you around here that won't act like savages the moment you aren't getting exactly what you want, and you know what?

You're all f***ing spoiled. You get to sit there, whining and moaning about what you don't have without realising the amount of work that goes into getting you what you do have. I took up learning C# - a programming language I'm utterly unfamiliar with - just so that I could try and continue Gravemind's work and get you - you - a better program to work with. It's been a long slog to get to where I am now, and even so I'm still out of my depth with trying to figure all this out, but I'm carrying on for the community.

I'm not asking people to jump up and say 'Hey, Rosie! You're Number 1'. Hell, I'm not asking you lot to say anything. You all have the right to remain silent. I sure as f**k wish you'd exercise it.

Alternatively: you give it a shot! I'm not kidding here - you go right ahead, and code us all a completely-original, 100%-functional asset extraction tool. I honestly want to see how much of a colossal f**kup you make of it, so that I can point and laugh at you when you mumble at your feet and say '...it's hard...'.

Damn don't be so hard to yourself, you did a great job a lot of people use the tool Gravemind created and that you fixed and maked it better. In case you haven't noticed a lot of maps that have been released use a lot of tags that were extracted using Adjutang, not only that your thread has 15 pages.

You should ignore everyone that spams. The fact that people are yaing the app proves that they are greatful.

Who cares ehat they say? Isn't the fact that they use the app enough to improve the app in the first place?

You you keep working on a map if everyone always told you you sucked and to go die in some hole?

It's like the two extremes here on this site, one side bashes everything no matter what - the other dose not care as long as they "get da modelzz". In the time that I have been here I have seen at least two scycles of people hating on someone who is making a tool for the community, then after a while the second group comes in and posts stuff like "y u mad dude? people use the app and talk trash everyday, y u no work moar on it?".

I can see why so many people have left this sight.

Actually, I make maps because it's fun. Not because people want it. So I don't care what they say to me.

Alright, well, that's you

That is actually about 90% of the people here who make maps.

So because 90% of people feel that way we should too? Ok. Shadow Spartan dose not make maps, Gravemind dose not make maps, Rosanna dose not make maps, I don't make maps. You see a pattern here?

It's cool making things for the community but when there is constant trash talking it gets old fast.
