Please stop with that horrific abomination that you kids call 'text-speak'. -sigh-
I remember you talking exactly like that at one stage

Yeah, no. One thing that really, really annoys me, is incorrect spelling or grammar.
If you can find a single post of mine that is incorrect in either of those ways, feel free to quote it... Oh wait, you can't, because such a post does not exist.

aha this is the leverage we have been waiting for to get the source code. now that game-spy is shutting down servers we just explain as a community that we would like to opensource halo ce. for the pc, as they are obviously not supporting pc players anymore.

Were not going anywhere. If they shut us down we will march, and march we shall, and take what is ours. Cause they may shut down our servers, they may stop the fun, but they will never take away this community!

As great as a user built replacement for the Gamespy master server is, I fear your average person could simply
not be bothered to switch around the files in order to play a 10+ year old game. This is just my opinion but we
could generate greater awareness of the changes by making simple guides on youtube or a front page announcement
on halomaps as well as contact the various clans that host servers to tell their players to make the switch.

Hey all!

Stop whining pls! They closed Halo Trial but no1 said they will close Halo PC or CE too. And probably they won't close as long as people have rented servers on them. BUT, even if they do one day, Btcc is working already on a GS emulator. With that and a small server sided patch (included in Sapp and Phasor) and a client sided dll (with many awesome features like load maps FAST in Halo CE starting, downloading CE maps when you join to the game, unified serverlist, fov change, bookmarking servers, increased polygon number in ce maps, etc, Yes, these ALREADY exists and WORKING), so with these we can play Halo like before, or in even better quality ^^. Also atm I'm helping to Sean in making http://halorank.com work again, at least on some basic level. SO, halo ISN'T dead yet, many awesome stuff are just now incoming =)

I certainly hope the servers are not shut down... I am still working on several MP projects. But if they are, I believe that so long as halomaps.org exists, Halo CE will survive.

With a small group of dedicated gamers/modders.... anything can be accomplished.

Tungle's down. You have to use hamachi or make another VPN.

Well, some people are talking about replacing gamespy with better stuff, if they are sucessfull, this game will live, i heard hamachi now has a limit of 5 members per room now. Its that true?
Well, at any rate, replacing gamespy would be a better option, than using VPN's.

[20:08] Juan Carlos: Microsoft told them to force the servers to shut down because of the mods that we map maker make.
[20:08] Juan Carlos: We rip content from Games and Companies.
[20:08] Juan Carlos: The ripped content are complaint to Microsoft, which Microsoft put all the blame to GameSpy.
[20:10] Juan Carlos: If they shut down the servers, they will be great that so we can't play online on Halo which will lost majority of HaloCE/PC/Trial's users.
[20:10] Juan Carlos: and force us to buy their latest products and prevent us to make HCE more usable.
[20:10] Juan Carlos: It's our fault too why they have to shut it down.
[20:10] Juan Carlos: because of the content ripping and making Halo 1 more useful.

I don't think his information is accurate or believable.

Well, if sehe is right or if e3p0 comes back, Gamespy closing their servers down could be beneficial. Replacing Gamespy's servers with either of the more stable servers could be very beneficial. I mean, e3p0's solution as I recall also allows for better syncing of everything including AI.

Not with a simple master server replacement you can't.
To sync AI, or better sync anything, you'd need to replace the dedicated server app too. All the master server does is maintain a list of servers and information about them.

E3p0 app =/= Halo Netcode

Anyway, if they do go down, it'd be a shame. Then again, I've been playing with this community for about 5 years and I've had my fair share of fun, map making, and drama. All I have to say is that this community is pretty awesome, a dedicated bunch of fellows to an older game that still rocks even in comparison to its sequels.

well, if this is it, we can start overhauling the ce server system, make it better, so that we can include:

-syncing AI
--allows coop firefight, and coop "campaign"

-better optimization for OS
--allows purdy graphics

I don't care for the OS part but syncing would be great.
Only possible if Microsft wants to compensate for our loss of MP with the source.

Well we could make a server page so it has all the Dedicated server IP's and we can join via them.

Because we can still host servers I believe we just need the IP. It will kind of be like minecraft I guess

Well...that's kind of hard, since copying and pasting is not supported in the UI.

Use console to join direct-ip, right click to paste.

We need to mix that kind of thing with the xfire joining system, then we'd be able to make a 3rd person program to join any created server. A sort of external client.

Exactly. And this is fairly easy to either create a 3P app that will allow us to join directly without copy pasting or even directly a button that does it. We need to unite under a worthy project and make it work. Servers are not down yet, better be prepared for when it comes however.

so i cant help but notice your copy of utorrent open there^ XD

on the other hand the game-spy servers shutting down will actually be beneficial, if we can barter with Microsoft for the source code

just think of the possibilities.

strafing flying vehicles, fp legs, dual wielding, integrated graphical updates, higher poly-count, new animation types, completely custom gametypes (infection/invasion anyone?)

really they're endless.

Microsoft will never, ever release the source code. No matter what you think, it just isn't going to happen.
