Why would they have the same logo and everything? That's so weird...

That's like saying Halomaps and Halomaps forums are 2 different companies.

No it isn't. It really isn't.

Halomaps and Halomaps forums are actually owned by the same company.

Gamespy and PoweredbyGamespy really are 2 different companies. It's a little strange, yes, but Gamespy, the journalist one, confirmed it themselves in a recent article.

Yeah I know that. So what they're saying that Gamespy and Powered by Gamespy aren't related in any way? You'd think that one would sue the other for copying the name.

Read the Gamespy article.

http://uk.pc.gamespy.com/articles/122/1226912p1.html

Basically, they used to both be owned by IGN but then PoweredbyGamespy was sold to GLU. And since then they have nothing to do with each other.

They can't really sue each other because they were at one point the same company. But they seperated. Of course, one of them should have the intelligence to think to change their name to differentiate themselves. But just seems like neither really cares so meh.

I don't think either company expected this much backlash to happen, and for there to be this much confusion...

Hopefully, one of them will change their names (or at least their logo) after learning from all this.

Unsuccessful troll is unsuccessful.
You do realize that a) you responded to someone who is banned and b) that responding to someone you believe is trolling makes you worst than the troll?

HALO TRIAL MULTIPLAYER IS STILL ALIVE. Go to http://rabbitcage.dip.jp/ for IP addresses to connect to get into games. Yesterday we had 9 people and a good game going, get the word out!

If the CE master server goes down couldn't someone host their own master server and have us mod our CE so it connects to theirs?

For anyone who doesn't understand:

Even if they shut the servers down,we can still play MP.

It's just that we won't be able to find servers in-game (the master server(s) provide a "list" of servers that are being hosted).

Direct IP would still work.

Last i checked, E3p0 made a server thingy incase gamespy shut down, and it's still available for download on his site

Ah yeah, pretty sure that's the name I was trying to remember. Yeah, E3p0 was doing a server replacement app and I seem to recall he was discussing improving the stability over Gamespy's servers.

Alive? Hardly.. I updated my previous post with the link. SilentK and myself worked on a master server project awhile ago that allowed a modified haloce.exe to use our master server instead of gamespy. It would take some effort for me to get it back up and running again. I'd have to drive about an hour to my storage to grab my old drives... I'm going down there next week sometime, i'll grab them then and try to get it working again if you want.

I am surprised at the absolute stupidity in this thread.
Lets panic about nothing and come up with ridiculous ideas on how to fix something that either is not broken at all or only slightly fractured.
IF halo gets dropped by gamespy, it would be a very simple task to open a 3rd party app and join games from there.

If you are to panic in this fashion, make sure you know where your towel is at least.

NEVER go ANYWHERE without your towel. These guys all made that mistake.

Shame Dennis deleted all my posts so I can't prove it, but at least I have the warm satisfaction inside.

Like, I remember a while back I made a post about how eventually whoever's paying Gamespy is going to stop and multiplayer is going to be deaded unless a third party solution could be found.

I'm not even pulling this out of my arse lol, I'm most definitely paraphrasing but almost 100% certain I brought up those points even before this thread.

e: Found it, the quotes found about midway down the page are from me.

Thread also first instance of Masterz Mac evangelizing

I don't think that counts as a prediction so much as common sense. Of course older games will eventually lose support when they are no longer cost effective, forcing players to seek out third party solutions. That's just business.

I predict that one day support for Halo 3 multiplayer will die.

If it's so obvious you should have made a topic on it, methinks

The fact of the matter is that the plug being pulled on multiplayer is not something anyone's really considered at all prior to this announcement. I take pride in being the modern day Paul Revere of this situation, and none of your retroactive cynicism can take that from me

Why not, A Halo Game is on Steam called "Halo Spartan Assault" why not Halo CE or other Halo Games, too? Maybe the Steam Greenlight voting would help?
