Light or Dark?

light lets dark text stick out more, which is preferable in my mind.
unless this has nothing to do with the forum skin >.>

Maybe have a trial period? Make it dark for a day, or an option that changes it per users preference.

I would like examples, or a further explanation of what you're talking about before making a decision.

Dark forums always look lifeless.

I say stick with light.

Some forums have general layouts for the site that the user can choose. So if someone wanted dark they could set it to dark, ect

Dennis is opening a discussion of keeping the current 'light' theme of the website or switching to a 'dark' theme. The dark theme would look something like the below picture. (Just a color inversion)


A dark theme is interesting and as Bobblehob said a trial period would be good.

By the way Dennis are you ever planning on redoing the page banners?

I personally don't like dark website backgrounds. However, if you wanted to improve the site's visual appeal, using sparse dark bits for contrast is a good way to do it.

I say try dark for a week or so, it allows people get the feel of it. If they like it then keep it, and if not just change it back. Personally I think it might look cool, but I cannot make an opinion on something I haven't seen.

If anything, I'd like a more modern phpBB layout than a color change... That'd probably make this forum a LOT easier to use, like in most other online forums.

But for this specifically, I think Pepzee's suggestion sounds like a good idea, though I personally don't like the dark version.

halomods and gearbox forums are dark, Halomaps was always light. I like it light, but it could do with a more haloish color scheme I think.

I like the light. it gives the forum a more personable, up beat, and overall alive look. Whereas the dark makes it seem unused, drab, empty. My vote, stay with the light. It makes it feel more comfortable and opened.

The light is comforting.

The forum is another story. Halo Maps Home and what ever it is it will be, no try this then that. Just looking for opinions.

Do both, and add a theme-switcher in the nav-bar? I'm sure it's doable.

Leave it as is. Just get the Christmas banner out.

Dark. I have my web browser inverted all day so I can get black backgrounds with white text (Yay for linux).

light, an 11 year old game shouldn't try to feel "edgy"

Please keep it light, I personally find it more pleasent to read.

It's more pleasant to read and it sticks with the theme of Halo. Halo's a clean-looking game, so keep Halomaps clean-looking. ;)

I prefer light too, but maybe you could invest in a new design for the fonts and the titles and things separators.
Why not to make a contest telling us what you would need ?
Almost everyone here could be able to contribute, but we'd need to make simple and modern, since I like this forum because it's very simple

I would have to say dark. I like the light but with everyone using the yellow and me having eye site issues (slight colour blind, short sighted and dark blind) its so annoying to highlight the text and paste it onto notepad.

i prefer dark, why dont you just let people choose between styles?

I would like to see it go dark but I would prefer to have it both ways. Just have an option that people can pick between light and dark. That way everyone is happy and no one is mad. It’s common sense in my opinion.

I like it light. Gives it that "clean and moderated" feel.
