I'm trying to host a dedicated server over LAN for some friends, but I'm getting CD key invalid. After googling, I see that there are ways to disable the check on the server (And the fact if we play on other servers we don't get the issue, it's only on our private server), anyone know how to do that?


I found out the issue, I had forgot to add 'load' to my init for SAPP. But now I have a new issue, everyone can connect fine but me. Can you not host and play on the same PC?

The game hasn't been sold new in years. The only thing available is shady key reselling, and that would have the same issue as this.

SAPP automatically disables the CD key check internally. There is no option (aside from custom scripting) to turn it on that I have seen.

The problem most likely arises because you're using a dedicated server for LAN play. Make sure all of your ports are set up correctly and such.

Well I'm now aware that SAPP isn't working. I installed it by overwriting the files in my game folder, and running the haloceded.exe and when I try to use commands by SAPP it says "Requested function <command> cannot be executed now".

http://xhalo.tk/ is the right site to download sapp from right? I double checked that I grabbed the right version, CE.

"Hasn't been sold new in years" doesn't mean "Freeware". Buy the game.

I already bought it years ago and lost my key.

There's no legal reason to buy the game - Using a used key is just as legal.

There's no moral reason to buy the game- Microsoft won't earn a single cent.

If microsoft would update and sell it legally (Is that even possible? Can they generate new keys still?) and or sell it on steam, I'd hop right on that (Provided the price isn't ridiculous)

The thread is off topic, and I just figured out how I messed up, I forgot to put 'load' in my init, so SAPP never loaded. Feel pretty dumb about that.

Though now I have the issue where I can't connect to the server if I host it on my PC (I already changed ports to 2310), but everyone else can fine. Can you not host and play on the same computer?

It always has, and is still being sold to this day. The product itself is just not reachable from the store's main page, as far as I can tell. I purchased another copy using this same method 2 years ago.

In-game under settings change your client port from 2303 to 2304.
