http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834257828 For a special Editon, I would expect it to have much better art work. Although it does make you wonder if manufactures are processing more game orientated special edition pc's what will be next? In my opinion it is far too expensive, but the fact that it exists is cool anyway. > 8GB Ram is pretty much the norm nowadays, I would expect something like 12GB or 16GB. > And the 1Tb HDD isn't very exciting, seeing as that option is available on most pc's today. > It seems there is no 17 inch screen size option, which is another shame. > i7 Core is pretty nice, and the graphics card is more than acceptable. It's one of those products which is stuck between putting flashy alloys on your audi and trading it in for a lamborghini. They should have added more exclusive items.

(marginally off topic) Anybody know of some seriously excellent gaming pc's or laptop. Something within the price range of £500 - £1200. I want to see if you can really build your own tower with equivalent or better specs.

no need to look it up. just build a pc, an asus gaming laptop can cost about 2000 usd. for that same price you could build an utter beast of a desktop that will support 4k resolution gaming.
an alienware 17 (the laptop i am on now), in the configuration that i have it in costs 3000 usd. at that point your desktop would become complete overkill and would probably outlast this next wave of consoles by a long shot. (i'm glad this was a gift cause i sure as hell wouldn't buy one of these pieces of crap)
that hp though is a surprisingly good deal. Edited by killzone64 on Feb 22, 2014 at 10:23 AM

I would sorely love to build my own pc. But my skill set means I am woefully inadequate to do so. I am sure there are some great tutorials and such. But I am just too shy, I mean what if I blow a load of cash on an awesome processor and destroy it whilst trying to fit it???
Or (final destination moment here) lets say I'm playing Call of duty on a hot day. And the fan blade from the cooling unit spins loose, cuts through the casing and slices my neck???
(I don't think I could take that kind of rejection)
Oh and lots of people gift pc's, birthdays are usual events in which gift giving is associated :D Edited by ASCENDANTJUSTICE on Feb 22, 2014 at 10:51 AM

i think that if sshers can build one you could easily do the same.
the only way you could fry the stuff would be to not discharge the static electricity on your hands before touching stuff (basically touch metal before touching the parts.
its not hard whatsoever.

sshers?
Oh and I am convinced that you can definitely make ridiculous savings by going home grown. My only problem is parts availability and skill. I think you have all convinced me enough to atleast have a peak into the custom pc world.
Oh and alienware are absolute rip offs! Does anyone actual buy there pc's???

@PRPatxi: Thanks for the link, lenovo are a good make. But postage and shipping from america would push prices to high.
Before embarking on building my own desktop. First can someone help me with this.
I have an HP Pavillion 15, (lots of letters and numbers....here)
The only problem with it is the processor. While it's good I know it could be better.
AMDA8 Elite quad core, 1.60ghz.
It is the Ghz which is the problem, I know the modifcation of the laptops is very restrictive, but would it be possible to change the processor around with something from intel? The only other AMD processor alternative would be either the: AMD A10, Or an AMDFX.
My bet is it is a real longshot, since so many processors have different plugs which fit into certain motherboards. (and if you replace the motherboard you have pretty much wasted your money buying the pc)

building a computer really is like legos, also i have an Fx 8350 (8 core) and its kind of a beast, sadly AMD still hasn't sued intel for rights to multithreading or AMD would reign supreme. but for making a computer make sure u have plenty of tuts and examples of what to do and focus on airflow throughout the entire build process.

Hahahah. :D thanks for the info guys. But I am recently having some problems with my current pc. I am sure there is a registry error, for either Directx or .netframework. Which I have no clue how to fix. So until I try that I will lay off upgrading my pc. No sense in trying to run, before you can barely stand. For example, I recently tried to install HAWX 2 on my pc, and I keep getting this error. I am left in no doubt that it is a hardware related problem beacause. GRID 2, Ace combat assault horizon both work. Not to mention, photoshop, after effects and some other stuff work fine. Edited by ASCENDANTJUSTICE on Feb 23, 2014 at 08:02 AM

Hp envy's are a lot like macs in a hardware standpoint. I've had an hp envy for only a little while before it started having major overheating issues. They're overhyped.

The Envy line is from Voodoo PCs, when HP bought Voodoo they discontinued the line and released under their brand with lower specs and lower price. The old Voodoo PCs had better specs than Alienware but they used to cost $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Hi! Yes I am the only admin on my pc, and I have turned UAC all the way off. Trouble is in win8 or 8.1 is, I still get that "folder access denied" warning (when ever I paste something), which I have to surpass by hitting okay.
I'll upload a capture later on, right now I am using a different pc.
