you heard it right, i am working on porting the halo 3 scarab into ce, in case you dont believe me, heres some pictures, all materials are correct, and all stray verts are gone, this process took me about 3 days.

the shaders are crap, i threw them together for a quick presentation.

heres what i plan on making for it
-custom animations
-custom physics
-custom collision
-drivable
-working cannon and turret
(they say there cant be more than one gunner per vehicle, the solution ive found to this is to make the turret on top an actual biped that is sitting in the turret seat, just like cmt did with their dropships)
-animations for it to crouch down when a person exits, and crouch up when a person enters.
-the scarab beam will probably be the "updated" one on halomaps, and the turret will fire cmt's heavy plasma turret shots

i am capable of doing this project myself but there are a few things i would VERY much appreciate help with
-collision model
the scarabs model had lots of open edges and its too complex of a shape to model myself using primitives, this is the most important part that i need help with
-shaders
im not really good with shaders, if anyone wants to help me out with it, id gladly let them give it a shot

so far i have everything ready to go for animations, after im done animating it, ill make the collision if i dont get help, the physics, and the turret biped, from there ill tag it all together and its finished. this will be released to the public, there has been many requests for a scarab, and ive built up enough motivation to make one.

ill be posting updates as it progresses, for now its about 25 percent complete.

I think that is going to be one of his biped gunners he's using so it can have multiple "turrets".

yeah, the huge turret will be a biped instead of a seat so it can work out like that

Well I like it. My only complaints are that the green parts are too green, and the purpley armored sections just don't look quite right. They need to be more gleaming and smooth-looking, I think. Like the Wraith.

i dont know how to set up destroyable parts for vehicles so no, and yeah, the green parts would have looked better but the scarab illumination map was unextractable

I don't understand though, the scorpion fires 2 guns, can't you use the same method for this?

Yes, but those both must be aimed at the same point, and the Scarab has more than two guns that can all aim independently of one another. The frontal cannon, the top-mounted AA gun, and a multitude of plasma turrets.

So. Just make it so the top turret can turn like the scorpion and use the same shooting method. Nobody really uses both guns at the same time, nor do they need to.


^ This seems logical, but use your CMT method if you want, I don't care. As long as this gets ingame and looks beautiful, fine by me.

Pretty sure CMT wasn't the one who invented that, though. I think the stock c_dropship uses a biped as its turret.

Just create several different AI Seats for the different turrets. For example, give the main AI pilot control of the Main Gun. Then, for the other turrets, use seats and create invisible AI with .weapon tags that emulate the turrets.

Each gun should be seperated into bipeds, in which there is an AI Controller. There should be a single AI attached to the main vehicle driving though.

The only problem with all of this is the only way to walk on it is that it needs to be stopped. Unless maybe the entire vehicle was instead a biped walking around, that might work, but im not sure.

What's being done for the projectiles? I didn't rly like the H2 scarab main cannon projectile (extinction). A bit 2d, but still quite cool.

darklord said he would be making a custom beam for it. and im not sure how that will work, i could add alot of seats in random positions, i dont know how i would be able to animate the scarab as a large biped, and tagging would be a ton of work

An SP version of this that is destructible would be super. Especially if you teamed up with Slappy and the team, and got the Halo 3 weps.

That would be like heaven for me...

You can make destructible vehicles just like how you make AIs sync. Permutations have to be controlled via script though and you'll need a server check script.

I've updated the shaders for ShadowSpartan.

I redid alot of the textures that are from Halo 3 and made them were they follow Halo 1's rules now.

Theres still work to be done though.

So I figured to let everyone know Shadows scarab is coming along nicely.

Pretty good looking textures. I think the purple needs to be just a bit more colourful, and the legs shinier.
