You can look at Extinction to see how well a Scarab works in a multiplayer match.

Okay, well because I feel like making this big long quote even longer, how would you use this scarab in a map? Single-Player or Multi-Player?


I'd do it the way bungie did it (sp). Make them mostly objective only, in halo reach you had to employ an evasion tactic contrary to h3 but still all the same it worked for me.

And I do not believe the scarab has any place in the multiplayer realm.

I'd have it in a mission where... Your on a covy super carrier, the first bit you have to find a way to destroy it, and at the end of the 2nd bit, you have to find a way off it. So you ride a scarab down to what ever planet your at.

Perhaps even destroy the super carrier from within using the scarab and then blast your way through the debris to lay some grunt hate!

Thats better, but for the mission before it, how would you get on the carrier?

Y'know we have never been entitled to a rich covenant air vehicle experience. With the exception of the banshee I for one would really like to experience the vampire/seraph fighter. Non of this really aids the plot but dwelling upon similar lines......a story line could be conceived with master chief or whoever crash landing a long sword into the fighter bay of a covenant cruiser and from there all hell breaks loose until such a moment arrives when the need to "jump ship" becomes a critical consideration.

Cue scarab & explodey firey things.

So this would be a short campaign? Because I remember at the end of Halo ce Master chief was in a long sword... There could be a small story there.

I honestly have never read it, I have a friend who has though. But based off whats here so far, I think this is a good idea for a campaign.

I thought it was a novel, but after I saw the xbox logo, I edited the post to say played.
Anyway, back to kirbys scarab, I opened the tag in guerilla and found that the scarab_detail_metal tag is corrupt. That's probably 1 reason why OS_Sapien doesn't like the h3 scarab

I already ripped the tags and gave a link in a previous post. Also, is the script just for walking on a moving scarab, or is it needed for the scarab to work? And as for the shaders, I would remake them my self, but I haven't made any models or shaders for tags, so I don't know how to (yet). Thanks for the script and letting us use the scarab. And the shaders are corrupt because they are os shaders, you can't rip them like kirby said.

Also if no one else is up to the script yet, there is an error with the script
[scarab line 96] this is not a valid trigger_volume: respawn_vol (player)) (begin
recompiling scripts after scenarios were merged.
this left parenthesis is unmatched.: (begin

I think the script can spawn the scarab without editing the globals.globals file, but it needs a trigger volume, but there is no point to making it without the scarab, and i can't get the scarab to work without the shaders.

The body is in 3 parts, legs, body, and head, the script should bind them, and if it doesn't.. then kirby will have to help.

Edit: the other thing it could be.. Bloodgulch is too low for the scarab.

The Silent Cartographer's BSP would be a better map to test the Scarab if you want to use content made by Bungie, although if you want to use something bigger for a testing ground, I'd recommend Coldsnap.

well, the shaders are now fixed, but when i try to add the "h3scarab.vehicle" in sapien, it just crashes (i'm using the script

btw, i tried to play the kirby's scarab map, but it crashes the game, i think the script and the vehicle are set-up for OS 3.0

They work for me, and I'm using the latest version of OS.

Perhaps we can try to see if it's turning out okay?

I have a map big enough to test the scarab, and the scripts may not be needed yet. As for the game crashing, did you test it in a yelo or map, I know with os features, a map wont see them so if they are corrupted the game will only see them when you try to get near it.
Anyway if you have made the shaders, then kirby can help out more, since kirby made the scarab in the first place.

Edit: Normal sapien will crash every time you try to place the scarab, even if you have os installed. Be sure to use os_sapien

On a side note, I'm having the same problems you were earlier, plus I can't figure out what the script is referring to by "glue", or the precise tags the objects call for. :\

That, and OS Sapien is also crashing on me whenever I try to put the Scarab objects in the map too.

These are quite the bizarre issues, and the process isn't exactly being too neighborly this week for anyone it seems.

Maybe the scarab model has too many polys, or I missed something when I extracted the tags. I'll re rip them.
