Interesting. Postgame summary: Lots of server miscommunication. Several were willing to help by hosting one themselves, but we got a working 1.00 server in the end (I really need to find out how to host servers on 1.09!). We played for a long time, mostly 4v4/4v5. All I can say is HAMMER SLAUGHTER. Even with incredible lag, the hammers were very fun and 'playable'. The sword was a melee-only weapon for when you ran out of energy in your hammer or for killing people in their hammer overheating delay... not exactly what I was expecting, but it plays its part.
Plans for the future: Hopefully I can get this into some kind of h3 bsp, or another kind of h1 bsp. If there's ever another build, I could change some damages around for the grif permutation. If there's ever another gamenight/tournament, there should be designated times. But feel free to play with your friends or clan outside of gamenights!

Dead bodies that held the bomb into their death are supposed to be orange, and on respawn the players turn back to team colors. If you're talking about any local player script I was asking about, that was for Valhalla. I've scripted, modeled, tagged... basically everything-ed grifball by myself minus jesse's hammer.

sorry, just getting back to the bubble shields, i was using 'the pit' on my ce server for a few months and the bubbles were quite effective because there was an overpowered BR on the map and i think its good that they dont stop explosions because the player in the bubble is forced to move if they see someone coming at them with a RL or nade.

Normal CTF rules with low health and instant player respawn. Don't touch any vehicle stuff, I'm not sure what that does.

Just some things I noted when my friends and I had a 7v7 match: * When a player throws the bomb and manages to score the game doesn't count the hole it was scored in, only the players team. This was exploited very frequently... * There was an incident when there were two Griffs on the field, however only only one could score. This happened when the first Griff was knocked in the air before the bomb blew up, and thus saved. When the bomb respawned a second player could then become Griff's clone ( I'm sure Sarge would be happy)...

There's just a lot of things in Halo 1 that restrict a "true" Grifball from ever being made. Then again, the last time I really tried anything was with Sigma's _TheArbiter_ maybe 2 years back.
He pretty much was at where Slappy is now.

I know... the real Grifball blows as soon as the player makes contact with the plate. The gameplay here is amazing as is already, we played for 4 hours straight. Qwerty, we were messing around by jumping in the air, throwing the bomb, then smacking it with a Grav Hammer. See who could catch it out of the air  . Also a great way to pass if done corectly.

Hey Slappy, First of all congrats on the map, I'm a huge fan, the community has always needed a decent Custom Edition Grifball map. Though I love the map, I think it needs a little bit of tweaking. Here are my suggestions/complaints Grif needs to be faster and tougher than the regular players to be able to evade them succesfully. Any sort of opposition makes him into mincemeat whenever he comes within a few meters. This is also a staple in Halo 3/Reach Grifball. The Energy Sword is underpowered compared to the Gravity Hammer. The Gravity Hammer is better than it in every respect. They're are a few ways you could change this: -Give the Energy Sword a Lunge (Though this may reverse the problem) -Make the Gravity Hammer slower You should also make the Energy Sword make a standard attack when you left click rather than melee. This is just a matter of personal taste comapred to the other two. Hope you can incorporate/shamelessly ignore my suggestions Keep up the good work.

I'm back... Everyone wants this to be a halo 3/reach grifball copy I guess. It's not, and it can't be. I'll try working on all these suggestions when I have a chance to get it better then it is already, but only within the limits of this engine. Believe it or not, you guys are asking for quite a lot. I don't want to put lunge on the sword. Lunges are damage effects that are laggy and can make you fly if you jump. And in other halos, the sword only lunges when locked onto an enemy, otherwise primary trigger is a melee attack. Since this can't be done in ce either, I want to keep it as a melee-only weapon, at least until the lunging system is improved on. In weapon balancing, there is a balance between fire rate, power, and ammo (and some other stuff like availablity and range) The hammer is slow enough as it is imo, and if we want this similar to halo 3 grifball, it should stay at the same fire rate. I would like to have infinite ammo on all weapons in another version. The hammer is one-hit-kills as far as power goes. I think the hammer should stay the same. Speaking of the one-hit-kill system, Grif should be able to take less damage from hammers. With this engine, I can't just give grif shields and take them away. I might experiment with materials, however, to make this work. Many people have suggested the same or similar things to me. Trust me, I know what's 'wrong' with the halo CE version of grifball. EDIT: So I'm trying new methods of blends and ground mapping. Here's how the blending looks now.   Seam sealers or no, judging from the pictures? I think that even with a visible seam, it looks okay. Oh well. I see your logic about lunging. Most versions I've used have been sub par.
The energy sword just isn't balanced compared to the gravity hammer, the hammer is better than it in all respects. Sure it has ammo, while the sword is limitless, but you don't tend to last long enough to run out of ammo, and if you do, who says your opponents have?
The Energy Sword just sits there taking up an inventory spot. It needs to be buffed in anyway.
As for Grif being faster/taking less damage. People can set a generic Oddball to make the character faster and be damage resitant. Is it possible to make your custom Grifball do this by default?

ground map is better, but the detail maps have a few errors:
1. don't use that grass one from vahalla. there is a far superior one i extracted from the map that i used in lumoria.
2. don't tile them much. if you can tell its tiling from a bit away, lower how much it tiles in the shader.
