I understand the fear of Microsoft litigation during Halo's peak years (2007-2011 or so), and I think that was something Zteam made mention of, but I still am upset about how dickish Zteam acted at times dangling these tools over everyone's heads. The description of CAD's video of the Halo 3 AR reload in particular pissed me off: "h3 model/animation extraction, c**ts" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iMVYjv3Hd5A
It was childish and not something I can forgive. That said, I do express my great appreciation that the tools are being released and admit you had no obligation to offer anything even after all these years. And I can't entirely blame keeping secrets back then as the community was rampantly bitter regarding stolen content, locking maps from tag extraction, protecting egos and otherwise being toxic. While I'm rarely here nowadays, it seems things have greatly calmed down. I'm certainly happy to release anything I have and know the community (and the world, though that's a more philosophical conversation) is better off when people are open to sharing.
So, sincerely, thank you for coming back, challenging yourself, and releasing the tools for the community. I do hope to see you over the next year as MCC releases on PC. Perhaps others who have been long gone will return as well and maybe we can make some cool stuff again, together.
Alrighty, here they are.

I might have this?
It's titled h3mt-narrows_pb1 so it might not be what you're looking for. Also have h3mt-valhalla_pb3 that I can upload cause I doubt HDoan would care. And something just called "h3 foundary" as well as "h3 tutorial" which I think is just a bunch of Halo 3 tags.
What upload sites are functional these days that people use? Lemme know and I'll upload them all. Edited by ODX on Apr 13, 2019 at 06:28 PM
We did it, lads. Halo 3 on PC. A decade of animating Halo 3 weapons to feel them under the control of my mouse and keyboard, and at long last I shall have the real thing. In its real game.
Thank Bungo. Thank MichaelSoft. Praise 343eyes. The tags will soon be ours.
Quote: --- Original message by: Masters1337 go learn fp animation, the community could really use a person proficient in them again. Hey wait what about me, aren't I good at ani- oh right wait lol, I don't really do anything anymore.
Quote: --- Original message by: Halo CE Noob Modder117 Oh hey aren't you the guy who did those Halo 3 weapons in the ZTeam pack? Hmm, I don't think so. I mainly animated stuff for CMT SPv3 but some of my other animations have probably been tossed around.
Quote: --- Original message by: Halo CE Noob Modder117Anyway. Does making animations require a working model? As I said I'd love to try it out and make first person grunt arms (this isn't already a thing right?) but every time I touch 3DS MAX it becomes a disaster. Unless its a box map... If you want to import it, then yeah you'll need a compiled .gbxmodel. Otherwise you can just rig any object you want and animate with it. Really as long as it has frame gun then you can technically import the animations, even if the model you use isn't the very same .gbxmodel. Not sure if someone made grunt arms. Maybe? I don't imagine they'd be the easiest to animate with seeing as it's basically a stump lol
Animation isn't too difficult, fundamentally. Just moving around frame gun and maybe the hand a little bit. Start off by copying some simple animations from whatever game you like the most. I love Halo 3 so a lot of my earlier animations (and subsequent style) were copies or heavily influenced.
Try following along with t3h lag, who has a 2 hour tutorial of an entire animation set for a battle rifle. Even includes the source files themselves. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VTOv4O6ZlRo Edited by ODX on Nov 21, 2018 at 06:28 PM
Wonder how they'll pick the maps to port over and test for full release. Can't quite see them allowing you to download any map you want but maybe they'll surprise me.
Quote: --- Original message by: Spartan314Goddamn your first ever reload was so good Wasn't my first reload. I actually have a folder with my first 5 reloads in it tucked away somewhere, I think three were done with the Halo 1 AR. They were pretty trash, robotic, and static-like. This BR set was like 2-3 months into my animating "career."
I started animating in September 2008, a year after Halo 3's release, because I was frustrated with how bad HDoan's Halo 3 copy animations were for H3T and I thought I could do better.
I don't think I ever did, but here was the first animation set I showed to the public: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3-U9ooKo1Ro
ICEE's mentoring was really instrumental to my earlier learnings, then the rest I picked up from copying Halo 3's style for a few years...something I never really stopped doing since I think they're so wonderful. Edited by ODX on Mar 28, 2018 at 08:28 AM
Quote: --- Original message by: Masters1337 ...and this will be my last project... Your DNA has been permanently molded by the forces of this community herein. Every project of your life is thus and shall forever be a Halo CE project.
You can never escape.
Also sorry I never did those battle rifle animations or whatever you were wanting me to do like years ago (more like a few months ago?), I never put 3ds Max on my newer computer but maybe sometime probably not I'll likely never but perhaps try to do that. Stay tuned!
This actually looks pretty cool, nice work :]
I'll take a look and see if it's worth organizing them and uploading. There's a ton of random crap I've attempted to do over the years, not sure what use people can find. I'll have to see if there's anything I can't release, such as Contingency animations. I'll check with Masters regarding any CMT stuff cause that's a good chunk. Everything else is probably fair game since I don't quite care anymore and the community doesn't seem as critical of "stealing credit" or "rips" like it used to be.
Oops, late to my own party by a few days. Apologies. I would mark the occasion somehow, maybe I can release all of my animation files but I'm not sure who would be interested.
Damn, was that really almost 7 years ago? Not quite that either.
I may have indeed been imagining homing rockets. I've been playing CE for over a decade (and my forum anniversary is in two days!) that I felt I've seen laser before, but I'm probably mixing the memories up with a minutia of other games I have played over the years.
I believe I have seen guided rockets before. The "follow me" feature is a true 10/10 addition though.
Quote: --- Original message by: MEGA_VKNGQuote: --- Original message by: ODX Why did you use some random SMG animations instead of the actual Halo 2 ones for the tagset though? Mistake, sorry. blame Jesse. BLAME JESSE. YES.
Quote: --- Original message by: MEGA_VKNG I guess its worth mentioning I have a lot of the HDoan anims too, and I guess I'll also include those. Now there's a name I haven't heard in a long time. Which set of animations though? HDoan did like 3 iterations among H3T's tagset, and while each was marginally better...I remember I got into such a fit of rage thinking I could do better that I ended up beginning to animate in secret with my mentor ICEE and my mother Donut.
Halo 2 is a great game.
Why did you use some random SMG animations instead of the actual Halo 2 ones for the tagset though?
Looks a little boxy, have you tried watching any cliff tutorials? Otherwise looks nice, one day you'll be a great modeler :D
