stop complaining

I'm not complaining you dumbass, im telling him what to fix and why. If no one ever did that for anything, everything would be horrible. Its called criticism and learn from it.

I sort of have to agree with Higuy on this one. Those textures are great as far as most of the detail, but they do look like stone a bit. Plus, not many of them seem to be the standard metal color grey. They all have a bit of brown it seems.

And, I understand trying to add details and new patterns for the Forerunner textures, but it just doesn't look right for some of those large tiling textures, which you can especially see on the Halo structures. I mean, the ones you replaced had very subtle, light details and patterns that worked for that kind of application, and replacing it with a heavy duty Forerunner tech pattern just doesn't seem right. I understand what you're trying to do, but adding contrast and detail for the sake of having contrast and detail isn't always the best approach. The stock Forerunner textures are great for both the clear tech patterns that you've enhanced well and the subtle patterns that haven't been as apparent here.

And this is all opinion, so don't get your panties bunched up if you disagree.

I wish more people looked at it this way. Then we wouldn't have so many people offended. There are a few on this site that seem to see every word made to crit and give help as the words "you suck".
Ah well. What can ya do I guess. :/

BTW, all that is opinion as well.

Let's not get into the -people-cant-give-crit-people-cant-take-crit-that's-your-opinions-not-fact-stop-being-a-baby-and-take-it argument. Don't post what you think about how criticism should be given or received. Don't derail the thread, whether you meant to or not.

When I play Halo, I kinda pictured forerunner textures to be made of metal, "some" strange markings on them (or not) either perfectly clean or JUST a little bit of dirt, scratches or stuff unless you put bullets into them.

In the flood levels, what I see missing is battle scarring. Usually, there would be blood splatters, bodies lying around, hand prints and foot prints of blood, after-explosion effects, that kind of stuff. Just wondering whether or not you'll add that (Yes or no, Im ok with your answer :) )

No no, there's a difference between "complaining" and "'female-dogging.'" You are technically [and pathetically] right for the definition of complaining, but you are using it in the sense that he is "female-dogging" instead. He is not, so there's nothing wrong.

Cool it.

The crits here have helped a ton. My own take on the forerunner textures is that this whole project is a mod, I wanted to completely change the look of them. Its really hard to get a read on it it, because for every person that has commented they don't like the look of them, 1 or 2 people more have commented that they like the new direction, so its pretty hard to tell. Anyways, no reason for people to argue over something so silly.

I find it horribly pathetic that we're arguing over the definitions of words.

It doesn't matter. Higuy is an experienced member and is offering critique albeit in a semi-harsh way, but still critiquing nonetheless. Just be quiet and stop posting already, your point is going no where and has nothing to give to the subject at hand.

Sorry that im a hardass Juan, but get over the fact that im some random dude on the internet voicing my opinion on what I like and don't like about a texture mod for a 10 year old video game.

Oh and, I find it horribly pathetic that you care what I say just to be a nuisance.

Juan, I've been taking higuy's crits to heart throughout the entire thread as well as many others crits. I don't really see it as it being harsh as much as I see it as someone cares enough to let me know how they feel about something.

I'm 95% sure you're just trolling, but in any case It's all good (just in case of that 5%).

Hey erm.. SorrySoldOut, will you be adding Battle Scarring to the environment as well? (Explosions, Blood Splatter, In Flood Levels: Hand Prints and Foot Prints of Blood or flood stuff, random bodies, that kind of stuff)

If I cared about your opinions or as you called it, criticism, I would have responded to it. I am only responding to your accusations at the moment.

I think the problem is Juan, is that you do things that like pretending to not know english, so I, and others, are tempted not to take what you are saying seriously in any way...

So you are defending his accusation that he is not complaining? Good for you and good luck with your dick riding. I am so proud of you guys =)

I don't care about anyone's accusations, I'm just tired of you trolling, especially when you used to do it while pretending not to understand english. And considering the work that he has done, I tend to take his crit a tiny bit more seriously.

Leave this thread you useless troll.

SorrySoldOut, if I may just offer a few words from someone who has been part of a modding team (albeit not Halo, but dealing with the same scope what your project has entailed)

1. While it's important to take into consideration of the criticisms and opinions of the fans of your mod, ultimately, the decision is up to you. It's impossible to please everyone, and the argument over the texture of the forerunner structures is starting to bog down progress. While it may not seem like a lot at first, eventually the constant changing opinions of one or two more people that don't necessarily agree with what you've made because of their personal vision will wear you out. It would be a shame for something like this to be discarded because of constant revision to a single aspect. At the end of the day, it's your opinion that will carry through since it is still your mod, without which we wouldn't be able to enjoy this new graphical upgrade.

2. As for brightness of textures, that can be adjusted by the in-game gamma adjustors, I would recommend focusing more on simply getting all the textures to match up with each other and presenting a smooth final product than retooling all of the brightness outside of the game.

Good luck with your endeavors.

Sorry, I've just been really busy with the holidays and work past few weeks. The texmod textures are packed into a tpf file and within that, the textures are all in dds format. I'll have some updates soon.

I literally burst out laughing right now because I saw that even two experienced forum members can argue. It is quite hilarious in my opinion that we can't go one day without a controversial thread or discussion in which people simply have to voice their strong opinion, and sometimes try to impose it on others. It's not really anyones fault, it's just the way the forums are.

Ok Im gonna ask, if it's packed into a tpf file, are we to download some kind of program that will inject these textures into Halo?

so um bumpalicious rex? and how easy is this texmod thing to use? just curious cuz ive dont a lot of texturing work on other engines im just kind of a lazy person

Texmod is incredibly easy to use. You just need a lot of time, as you have to look through loads of textures before you can find the ones you want to extract for editing. Plus you can only extract textures from one map per game loading, otherwise it glitches out and you have an incredibly big list of textures.

Nah, it's easy to work out how to use. You just need time to use it in the first place. You also need some experience in texturing, which I've not. I've got more experience in editing than I have in texturing, as I used to make avatars and signatures on other forums.
