I love the forerunner textures, just make them simplified by blurring out some of the more detailed lines and such, and maybe lightnening the color overqall to go with the shinyness. But looks great! There's no way I would be able to accomplish something like this.

I like the forerunner textures personally. I don't know why you guys want simplicity. Forerunner textures are supposed to be complicated and confusing. Forerunner structures are built by an ancient and mysterious race, so it makes sense that their painters would make everything confusing. :P

Quote: --- Original message by: TM_L0d3man My input for this would be to keep the Forerunner textures simple and shiny. I always loved H1 Forerunner alot more due to it's simplistic shapes and aesthetics (though they still are beautiful in all respects). For me personally, simplicity is win. Yes. Keep them simple and shiny. The ones shown above recently sure are different, but you're right, they are too busy. A shiny upgrade for the original textures, perhaps with some color change and minor design work, is the way to go. I'd like to reference Halo 3's Valhalla map shaders in this case. It seems you can achieve that kind of glare, forerunner pattern, and such.

I disagree, I hated Valhalla's forunner structures, they were TOO simple and seemed human, not acient and epic Edited by Delicon20 on Dec 2, 2010 at 07:02 PM

I think I have found a nice solution to some of the more complicated textures, I'll have some screenshots tomorrow night or early saturday along with some video of the textures in gameplay. Time for bed though Zzzz

The forerunner textures aren't bad per say, its just the way your using them.
For example, you have wierd looking lines from the texture on your big a30 beam structure. In my opinion, that looks pretty bad and very distracting. Also most forerunner are shades of light and dark gray, mixed with blue or yellow. Sometimes brown from dirt for exterior structures, or white for snow etc.
The lines thing seems to be on quite a few textures too.
Another thing is that some of your textures that are inside look extremely beat up as if they would be outside.

It looks good though, it looks advanced, and thats what the forerunners were advanced beings. So this looks really good. It looks a bit beat up cause Halo is like over a million years old. so yea i love it.

Graphically awesome. The beam emitter panels in the design still look out of place, but they look way better than they did before.

The flower bitmap looks nice. It blends in enough where it isn't too distracting.

Like it, but something about the textures on the outside of the structure is bugging me. They seem like you put large panels on it and plated it like that.

Would you mind showing the bump and diffuse for the metal? There's something really awful looking with the metal ATM and I believe it's the bump. Metal should be fairly smooth, right now it looks more like rock than it does metal.
And this is me trying to help, I love everything I've seen so far.
Also can you apply an image for Specular in Halo? I haven't worked with the shaders in a long time. Edited by YakZSmelk on Dec 6, 2010 at 07:40 PM Edited by YakZSmelk on Dec 6, 2010 at 07:42 PM

The bump is very very detailed. I kinda made that choice, I could easily go back and change the bumps to be extremely smooth with just the cross sections receiving the bump but I didn't want it to be "metal". I wanted to have a weird alien bump effect as well, it looked good to me in game... but maybe I have been staring at the project to long and need to take a step back.

I would say try bumping only geometry changes. If you want me to help with any of the texture feel free to PM me. Edited by YakZSmelk on Dec 9, 2010 at 12:43 AM
