It looks a little... Big. But other than that it does looks quite a bit better than the first maps you released.

It's not mocap. Also, at which parts and are you watching the video at 30fps or 60fps? I only notice irregular movements when he is using his hands to push himself back up from the ground.

at around 20-30 seconds in, the leg motions really seem to jitter, and as the arms move around the chest seems to jitter as it twists. it seemed more prominent in 30 but watching 60 its far less noticeable.

Teaching myself how to create Compiled HTML Helpfiles
I like the .chm format because you can carry it around on its own as a standalone eBook type thing, and there are readers for it on Mac, Linux, and Android. And it's super old, old enough that even windows 98 can read it. (No messy folder filled with tons of images and .html files, yaaay ! )

Thought I'd make a proof of concept:



There'll be:

  • animated GIFs

  • Flowgraphs explaining how Halo looks at various textures and their channels

  • Folder hierarchies

  • Various example tutorials nested into easily identifiable folders

  • Diagrams of textures shown at 3/4ths perspective stacked on top of eachother and how they look ingame

  • Whatever else I am able to easily explain with Krita

  • How to use multiple skies on the same BSP by dividing it with terrain portals

  • Material types and how much health they have when flagged as "Breakable"

  • How I was cramming lots of geometry into levels without ruining framerate on a standard-PCI 8300GS back when I was working on the Jail-type map... and highpoly hyrule I never mention anymore



...IF I ever work on this .chm file after today, that is. I am very out of touch with Halo CE since I haven't messed with the HEK in a long time. So I am re-learning A LOT.

So a lot of it involves me taking tons of in-game screenshots and turning them into animated GIFs to explain how various Sapien and Guerilla values affect tags. Things like..saaaaay. " An animated gif that has a guerilla value on one side that changes and an ingame screenshot on the other side showing you the effect ", etc.
I think there is a way to make the .chm file detect a computer's default locale and display different languages other than english.

Hopefully not too big. I plan on using visible-only index gifs, dot-matrix color schemes to save on file sizes where detail isn't needed in a graphic, etc. But after all, a compiled HTML file is literally a website in an 'LZW compressed archive' thingy. So it shouldn't be much bigger than an ebook.

Since there is a lot that I have never actually tried doing with halo anyways.
Never made weaponry,
Never made bipeds,
Never made a GUI or HUD,
Never customized the rasterizer(though this looks easy enough), etc. I just make bumpmaps and level geometry. So I do lots of research when adding to this helpfile. And on top of that, I'm only creating the markup right now. Just generating lots of empty HTML files, placing folders, rearranging folders, messing with the css stylesheet in notepad++, I only wrote that one Tags Overview.html as a proof of concept of how I would be explaining things

Still coming up with folders and topics to stuff into it though. I know I plan on putting a some other folders in the navpane:
Engine Behavior
+++ globals.globals And its importance
+++ Heads Up Displays
+++ Menu Interface
+++ Rasterizer Behavior
+++ String Lists
+++ Font Rendering

Technical Overviews
+++ .gbxmodel
+++ .model_animations
+++ .physics (probably needs a folder with lots of de-complicating -_- )
+++ etc.
