I don't really see why you are messing with an old model just re-create it.

From what I see, the left side of the face is what you're doing, the right side is what you should be doing. you'd honestly be better off redoing the face model on your own

Tark your work is most impressive.

Nah, it's not mine.

I usually express my art in metaphorical form which symbolizes the desired object.
So I mostly apply a method that has been known in the classical art for centuries, even millennia.
This method involves using large chunks of anorganic material and reassembling them to form the object which symbolize the metaphorical intention of the artist.
A good example is Stonehenge, one of the earliest and most famous piece of art which have been created by this method.
It has a good resemblance to my current projects but less metaphorical.

E.g:
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/5/50/Stonehenge-Fersenstein.jpg
This chunk of anorganic material from Stonehenge, which I will now refer to as 'stone', has all the similarities to my metaphorical artwork of modern times.

It is resembling the masculine strength through its elevation and superiority above all other objects shown in the scene.
Furthermore does the unyielding structure of the artwork represent a similarity to the masculine desire to use its own unyielding organ.
And at last is the angle in which the object is placed. It is inspired by the penile erection of a healthy man.

Even though the use of this method has been refined over the last centuries and millennia, I try to create a renaissance of this ancient art.

That is one strange turret. Doesn't look too different from what I have (or maybe what I'm going for) I'm no doctor, but having 2 full calibre cannons together like that wouldn't be the best idea I don't think.

Anyway, here's some better shots of the turret and my sad excuse for smoothing

With autocannons and stuff it's not as big of an issue, especially if it's intended to provide a degree of air defense capability. When you start getting into the really big stuff, though, like tank cannons, that's when the multi-gun setup becomes pointless and/or inefficient.

Like, you know, 110mm MGS Cannons.

Anyway, I'm open to pretty much any suggestions as to how to actually mount the cannon on the vehicle. I'm not overly fond of the current turret base.

To be honest, the topology of these things is just horrible, you should give up on object modeling and use more plane extrusion, snaps and weld. And splines if you can too.

Wait, are you telling him to give up completely or change the way he models?

I do agree with your opinion though. That base thing looks like the step ramp for a fancy teleported machine or something.

I'm not too worried about topology for the moment, I'm mainly just trying to make everything look right. Once I like the shape of everything, I plan to go through and do it more right. I suck at making good topo when I'm making up a model as I go along. Splines are something I do need to get used to using more though, as I've not used them much.

As for plane extrusion, what exactly do you mean by that? Just the basic plane modelling?

Yes, yes I know. This is what happens when I am not bothered enough to actually delete the mesh and go back and fix it even remotely properly. I'm not even sure why it curves in like that honestly. This design, as I think I mentioned, is absolute scrap. I've just been trying to figure how I want to actually put the elevation on there. I know the M1128 has its pivot on the bottom of the gun, so I may copy that a bit.

Which, thinking about it, actually solves a lot of problems that stemmed from having the turret elevation in-line with the center of mass vertically.

Purple and Blue are where I'm considering moving the mount. Suggestions?

I fixed(?) it.

It's much better(?) now.

http://p3d.in/JLcx2

Need to work on a proper method for the crew to get in and out from the front.

Given the fact this thing is annoyingly massive, I'm considering reducing the width of it a good bit. Also considering moving the turret forward more to allow storage behind the basket, and lowering the part around the driver so it doesn't stick so much above the hull line.
After the 8x8 is done, I'll make a few varients (SPG, APC, IFV, CV, MEDIC, maybe others) then make 6x6 and (possibly) 4x4 types.

I really like the way this is coming along, your work almost reminds me of the apc type vehicle featured in Aliens

Ignore all the comments about topo it can always be re-done, what you have so far can arguably be treated as a more of detail blockout rather than an intended lp game asset.

The general workflow for creating such assets is model the highpoly with most if not all details in, make a low poly version of it, UV and bake doen the normals. An actual picture usually doesn't play a role other than it being a reference for your model and potentially color sampling.
