I am not going to discourage anyone who wants to create a team for content for Halo Custom Edition, but what I do have an issue with is the way mapping teams are conducted and the quality of work. H3MT and CMT are great mapping teams, and really haven't dissapointed us. (i.e. CMT SPv1). Lately, everyone wants to be them. I am tired of seeing teams being created to re-create something that is already in another game. It takes some real skill to re-model a BR 50 times (That was sarcasm btw). The point is, I am tired of seeing teams re-creating something. This used to be about "custom" content, but now it's turned into a pissing contest to see who can make better Halo 3 and Halo: ODST content for a crappy game engine. Though overplayed, Hugeass and Coldsnap were a huge success. Why? They weren't your ordinary multiplayer map. If you think about it, it was more battefield inspired, but at the same time, kept the qualities of Halo. I'm not into the HCE community, nor was I ever, but the point is, it's losing value. The more you hear about it, the less you care. It's like the boy who cried wolf.

Ex.
"Hey guys, I am starting a Halo 3 re-creation team, and I have no skill, but I would like people with skill to join!"

No.

This is an example of conducting a mapping team. This is a horrible way to start one. Especially if you have no skill, and make everyone create everything to your demand. You can't wash one hand without the other (unless you are a highly skilled person with your feet or shlon... nvmd). I would like to see a member who wants to start a team, not make his first impression by knowing nothing about the way the HCE engine works or how you can modify it to your liking. It's not bad to not know something, but when you don't know crap about anything, don't start a team.

Mapping teams are overrated. If there's any one person you should be able to depend on, it's yourself; only rely on the help of other people for feedback and suggestions.

The main reason that most teams fail is because kids always start them, and they can't do any modding then selves... so what's the point.

People should learn to do it them selves, before they make some mapping team with some stupid name.

Also, this is not because I hate ripping. But I swear to god, if people spent the time they use to rip stuff on actually making it them selves, they could make more custom stuff easily..

Tails, you're 100% correct on everything you said. Half of the people on halomaps are under 18 and show no sign of maturity as well. This is exactly why I some-what left halomaps. Unlike some people, i'm trying to learn on how to model and animate. In 3DS max. If someone is going to make a mapping they atleast need to know how to do something in Halo CE. Modding wise.

ya i got bored of reading halfway through. And to be a good mapping team everyone needs skillz. not no huge ass 25 member team because nothing gets done and there is halo 3 mappingteam. And you have to have good animating skills and modeling and bitmaping, dont forget shaders because if the team fails you still have a chance

I fully agree with you, iTails. Coldsnap, Extinction, and more recently, Gamma's firefight have all been popular for the reason of providing a fresh new concept for CE. Plus, I doubt many of these mapping teams will succeed in mimicking Halo 3's content as perfectly as H3MT or CMT, so its ultimately pointless.

I am glad your post had anything to do with the thread. /sarcasm

This wasn't a pissing contest of who is more mature, christ.

If you people did not want to read the thread, you had no business posting in it.

P.S.

Being legal does not mean you're still not an idiot.

P.S.S.
I'm going to turn 18 next year, it's just a matter of kids taking criticism the right way and not getting butthurt when they are corrected.

I personally don't care about mapping teams. I've been apart of a few but I'd rather work on my own. Of course I can make a fully custom bsp. Like iTails said new people make teams expecting everyone else to do everything but I think the reason for that is to be apart of something successful. In their eyes why make a map not "Up to par" and be flamed at when you can be apart of a team and have the blame go an equal way or have a popular map. I have a feeling it's the communities behavior towards new people who join the forum that drives them to do stupid things but whatever, it's been 3 years since I've joined and the community has changed a lot and has no sign of changing back.

Wow your really ignorant. If you gave ANY thought at all to what your saying, halo ce has always been like this. There's been halo 2 recreations ever since they showed halo 2 at e3. Then there was h3, odst, etc. It's always been the same. Not only that, most mapping teams help build productive styles into doing things and it helps let people collaborate there ideas. So what if some kid who can't map is trying to make a h3 map? I'd say good for him becuase he's actually trying to learn to do things in this engine. If you have a problem like this, keep it to yourself becuase you sound retarted.

And what's this? It's not custom content? Well, it's definitly new to the game. Oh, and the vehicles in cold
snap were based of some Mech game, the mythos idk.
