I tried starting a mapping team, and was told, like Joshflighter, to jump off a cliff. Now look at me. As unknown as ever.

In response to the op but for the community as well I remember some time back I too made some kind of ,like, comment and it was at that time I gained the greatest respect for the members here. This is not easy by any means and for some of us it is a daily mind wrenching trial and error thing. Many many hours, days, weeks, months (going on 1 year for me) of devotion and dedication to a art form few master. Without the help and guidance from others I would have given up along time ago or been kicked out. They have helped me learn some community manners:) I enjoy this more than anything eles and I know that this is leading me twords something special someday. I am medicaly retired and don't have much left accept my family, my computer, my artistic talents, my experience and the drive to not lay down and die. You guy's remind me of, well, me. You have given me hope in the human race. Yes we need others to move forward and teams are an important way of mingling ideas that come up with perfection, but of course "it all starts with the individual" Semper Fi peace my brothers

Map teams are only there for the sake of making community bonds and rep. Nothing else. Look how many of them get anything done in the first place. Sure I have been in a few map teams. Most of them failed. The only remotely successful one was UMT and we only released one map. Other than that, it was just to make a community within a community. I wonder if CMT has some sort of CMT-meet-a-pa-looza every few months where they all meet up somewhere convenient and play Halo for hours.... We just played for over 3 hours last night if that counts. The problem with map teams are they try and do things that is way way too much. Even for a team to tackle. There are other teams out there that people forget such as the Metroid team, the Sonic one, and even Zteam have accomplished so much.

gonna just go ahead and say iv met some of my best friends in mapping teams (sigma). theyre like my e-family. and we still get stuff done too. slowly, sporadically, and for a different engine, but stuff gets done nonetheless.
E: and you guys are kind of proving a point that everyone gets in a team to make themselves known rather than to have fun. Edited by Donut on Dec 28, 2009 at 04:11 PM

Hassling and stuff on the forums does not have any impact on the team. It's not like we have a crysis when someone asks us for the tags or a release date.

Quote: --- Original message by: IcePhoenix my issues with mapping teams: they have a knack for announcing a new project, complete with trailers, and then spend ages working on them (allegedly) and jup to now, still give no news on the project's condition. like SPv2, and the nazi zombies thingy. and they happen to be the most awaited ones. SPv2 may introduce totally new concepts like vehicle shielding, and hijacking (according to some videos). but we may nebver know, because they might never be released. i hate waiting. That's why you should use the element of surprise. Don't let anyone know ANYTHING about what you are doing. Also, they won't expect something from you right away. The way I see it. Premature releases are the worst, but looking at something completely kick@$$ that someone says is ALMOST done and then waiting a year and a half for it to come out makes me a sad panda. :(

Hassling has nothing to do with it. Reason most great mods/maps don't get released is because by the time people reach the skill level to achieve all of that, life has far more important priorities.

You guys have a point there. But, doesn't that affect the teams a little bit? I mean "Z0MG, me wantz spv2 NAO!!111eleven!!1", sounds annoying to me.

I don't see how it could affect us. It's not going to change our quality of work or make us do something else.

Not to mention the PM's I get from these so called clan leaders saying how experienced they are in beta testing cause they know how to play with their dick.
