The light that was absorbed into the camera lens when that picture is taken is more then a million years old. Light that travels through space will hit dust particles and scatter in random directions. What you saw there was just light as it passed through a dust cloud and took more then a million years for the light to reach us.

Hey, who's to say Halo doesn't exist?

Bungie does apparantely. Also, I don't think its possible for an artificial ring of such size and gravity to stay a ring without collapsing anyway. Halo defies science.

You never know, maybe an alien race built something similar. O_o

Doubt it.

We come in peace.
We promise not to send ships to your planets and glass your world

Ha that's pretty awesome.

However, I think Eta Carinae should be a star we should keep a closer eye on, unless you want an unsuspected shower of gamma rays...

I found more info about this.

Eta Corvi (Eta Crv / η Corvi / η Crv) is a F-type main sequence star, the sixth-brightest star in the constellation of Corvus.[1][7] Two debris disks have been detected orbiting this star.

This star is about 40% more massive than the Sun but is only about 30% of the Sun's age. The concentration of iron in its atmosphere is only about 93% that of the Sun's. The projected rotational velocity at the equator (v sin i) is a brisk 68 km/s.

The IRAS satellite detected an excess of infrared radiation from this star, beyond what would normally be expected for a stellar object of this class. Observations in the submillimetre band confirmed the presence of excess dust in orbit around the star having about 60% of the mass of the Moon and a temperature of 80 K. The data indicated a debris disk with an estimated maximum radius of 180 A.U. from the star, or 180 times the separation of the Earth and the Sun. (Compare to the Kuiper belt, which extends out to 55 A.U. from the Sun.)

Recent submillimeter observations confirm the presence of an outer flat, circumstellar disk of debris with an outer radius of 150 A.U. It is oriented at an inclination to the line of sight from the Earth. Most of the inner 100 A.U. of the disk is relatively free of material, which suggests it was cleared away by a planetary system. In addition, infrared radiation which appears to be from an inner, hotter, debris disk within 3.5 AU of the star has been observed.

Since the Poynting-Robertson effect would cause the dust in the outer disk to spiral in to the star within 20 million years, much younger than the age of the system, the observed presence of dust in the outer disk means that it must be constantly replenished. It is thought that this happens by the collisions of planetesimals orbiting at a distance of about 150 A.U., which are repeatedly broken down into smaller and smaller pieces, eventually becoming dust. The origin of the inner disk is not clear. It may have originated from planetesimals recently having moved from the outer regions of the system into the inner system, in a process similar to the Late Heavy Bombardment in the history of the Solar System, and subsequently being ground to dust by collisions.

Long-wave infrared observations reveal a disk, probably from heated radiating dust grains, intriguingly similar to our Sun's extended "Kuiper Belt," a zone of small bodies left over from the formation of our Solar System and the reservoir of short-period comets. Similar disks are seen around Beta Pictoris, Vega, Fomalhaut, and Epsilon Eridani. Eta Corvi's disk is cleared out in the middle, and contains a pair of clumps. The data are interpreted as either a 300-AU-wide ring tilted through 45 degrees, or a less-tilted ring with a real clumpy structure. The clumps could have arisen from a planet similar to Neptune that, shortly after it formed, moved outward from 80 to 130 AU, shovelling the star's debris disk -- Kuiper Belt -- in front of it. The same thing seems to have happened in our own Solar System when our early Neptune moved outward (according to dynamical theory) by some 10 AU. Such a planet would be 3.5 times farther out from Eta Corvi than is our Neptune from the Sun, and would take 900 years to orbit. Where there is one possible planet, there may be others, so the little, almost anonymous, star in Corvus will be high on the list to watch.

So DEEHunter is right the first time.

Anyone notice how the lens flare around the star slightly resembles this:

Wow, it must be real, because we really have already invented slipspace travel, and the Covenant has destroyed all our colonies, and we had supersoldiers being trained on Reach, and one of our ships crashed on that ring and blew it up and the Master Chief is back and the Covenant are attacking earth as we speak! With all of this evidence as proof it must be real!!!! [/epic sarcasm]

Seriously though? People actually believe it's real? Get a grip. It's a videogame.

When you show proof that it doesn't other than "it's a video game" then I will rule it it's existenst possibility.

Really? Only one Earth? Out of the WHOLE universe there can only be one earth? Google is the answer to everything, gtfo.

Reality is for those who are bound by imagination.

There is only one planet named "Earth" there may be planets that are 99.99999% identical to Earth, but there can never be an exact replica.

even if there was, it wouldn't be called "Earth".

On a another note, if you typed out the number 10^100^100 it would be larger than the universe, even if compacted to its densest form of normal matter.

E: sorry, visible universe, of course.

so.. if the top of the ring is in the pic... then wheres the bottom?? wouldnt it reflex the light from that star in the pic? if the bottom drifted far enough so the hub telescope could not see it.. then wouldnt it do the same to the top ring pieces? they would be far apart from each other which was caused by a EXPLOSION. or there is a different story line to why that is in the google earth. not unless some one kind try to find it on another program like google earth.. and see if it is there.. :O

cool story, bro.
