Honestly people, read lone's posts. He has said that the mod will (hopefully) be released before the end of 2012 and that there will be a short walkthrough/feature video in about a month's time.

When this mod is released, someone should make a side mod for the original campaign that includes these new enemies and such!

I mean like horror wise. But that WAS pretty eye hurting. XD

Yeah, I kinda meant eye-hurting-wise too. Horror wise, something with proper red blood would be.

Bumpin' with a small news post.

One of the things we'll be showing off in the walkthrough/trailer in about a weeks time is the new randomised armour permutations for our Armoured Elite Flood (yes the human flood will have them too), here's some pics of the armoured elite flood:

(Excuse any duplicated flood, every time you load up the map, they change, so duplicates are unavoidable. Please also note, these aren't all the permutations, there are plenty others.)

Another thing we've fixed since the beta, is the shield shader on the shielded flood. Originally, the shielded flood had no shader applied, so it was very difficult to tell which were shielded, and which weren't. Well, I'm quite happy to say we've fixed that too. Pic:

Well we could use some help with animating in general, and creating textures. If you've got knowledge in either of these areas, feel free to send me a pm or add me on xfire (warlordkillsall).

That goes for anyone who wants to help btw :)

Looks awesome! You guys should make totally custom BSPs to accompany some of these real cool tags.

Looks good, however you may want to look into fixing the shine on the elite armor. I'd probably change the shield color to a brown or so, something that really makes the flood look dirty.

Thanks, that's what we have planned for a few of the levels :).

Definitely what we have planned for the armoured elites, we hope to remove the shiny shader and use darker colours with bullet holes and flood blood.

Content Update 1
Welcome to a set of weekly updates that hopefuly will actually be weekly rather than annual updates mislabeled.

For the first update, we'll be unveiling the beginning of a new tagset (weapon-wise at least). I'm sure there's plenty of people out there who favor custom weapons and such. This isn't to say that development time is being detracted from the level design and character creation to create these; rather, an outside animator (me!) was invited to make these. Well, sort of. I couldn't have done it without ODX's help, who provided criticism and guidance (and an idle, overlays, and moving animation). Without further ado, the animations:

http://www.xfire.com/video/4bd7e7/
(Thanks to Lone for uploading for me; too lazy to compile it myself x])

No worries; in accordance with these new animations, a new flood FP rig will be done for this very purpose.

On a side note, our character development team hasn't stood idle either. Presenting a new ally:

http://screenshot.xfire.com/s/116872330-4.jpg

http://screenshot.xfire.com/s/116872308-4.jpg

This is the jshield flood form (or at least the codename that our character dev team assigned it). It's a flood elite combat form with a jackal shield. Intended to spearhead and lead the flood assault through overwhelming enemy fire, the flood elite combat form with a jackal shield is capable of absorbing a large amount of enemy fire. In the campaign, these forms will often spearhead the advance, drawing enemy fire from allied characters and yourself.

No offense, but the jackal shields are fairly unnecessary. From a gameplay perspective, a regular shield (say, from an elite), would do just fine. The Jackal shield is on the jackal becuase they don't have shields, but it acts as a partial one that can be easily diminished, and rendered useless if the player is up close. The Flood themselves are also already pretty strong as it is, since they can get back up if there insides aren't shot out, and they don't respond to much of a melee either. Don't overpower something that was already pretty powerful.

You guys should focus more on the actual enemy's (for example, new types of sentinels, getting the human ENEMYS down correctly, etc) and what new types of interesting encounters you'll be using, rather than trying to add in (IMO) unnecessary assets, for example a flood with a jackal shield.

The choice for adding jackal shields to flood forms was to give a bit more variety to the flood besides your generic combat form. Saying they're unnecessary from a gameplay perspective is really subjective. Not only have you not played any of the latest builds, you haven't see it in action either. So you can't say for definite if they are unnecessary or not.

As for the Flood being pretty strong as it is, I agree, that's why I toned down the health on the jshield variant (figured I needed to after I saw it take a rocket directly to the body and survive). The health has been toned down a bit on all unarmoured combat forms, so the armoured ones have a bit more of a chance/advantage while being less in number. Which is another thing the jshield form has. It only appears in most encounters in maybe 1-2 units. There will not be an shielded phalanx moving against the enemy. As I said, it's there for variety. As for melee, Flood don't die to player hits easily, but it only takes 1-2 hits from an elite to kill a flood now, and one hit from a hunter to take down a few of them.

As for focusing on actual enemies, trying not to sound arrogant here, but it is a Flood mod, the main focus is that of the Flood, with their main enemies being the Sentinel forces. Which we certainly are adding to. As mentioned before we're not going to be showing some enemies at all, so that the player will experience them when he plays.

We have alot of new enemies/allies planned for this mod, not only gameplay changing units, but also ones that add variety to the mod. Besides, after 5 levels, we need to have a bit of variety or the players will get bored.

Edit: Just like to add, as we make the rest of the levels, and it turns out you're right, and they do become rather overpowered/redundant, we will remove them. You just have to have faith in the team right now. We're still trying out new things, and maybe we're a bit over-eager to show them to the community, who-knows. But as I said, if they do turn out to be overpowered, or if the community feels the same as Higuy, they will be removed.

Do they use the shields to cover themselves like the jackals do or do they just wave them around as if they weren't even there?

The latter, but when they fire they cover their side, and when they're moving forwards the can cover their front.

Flood Campaign Teaser Trailer #1:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6S-V_9Kuj6Y

Everything you're about to see is a WIP, and is subject to change. FP arms will be replaced with Flood arms in the near future.

We will type up news posts regarding aspects of the trailer at a later date that will explain everything new. Until then, enjoy!

A simplistic, floodified HUD is already in progress, so there should be no worries about this. As for the encounters, the mod no longer revolves around you. You will have a multitude of allies throughout the mod to complement your reduced health and shields. No longer can you charge through swarms of enemies without taking significant damage.

I agree with Higirl on this one, the shields on the elite form seem useless.
If you were to put them on a carrier however...

Indeed, since then, they've been removed. And if you watch closely in the trailer, the carriers with shields are indeed present....

The Jackal arm is actually a live, covenant jackal, who is using the carrier form as a means of stealth.

I saw a Jackal arm on the back of a Flood Carrier ._.

Yeah, we've got a few variants of Carrier with like body parts hanging out and such(Be glad I didn't show the front, it's got maimed heads!). We'll be adding a sort of flood texture to the 'parts' eventually.

So, it's been a while since a proper news post, but I'm glad to say that we're back (and we've brought goodies!).

About a month ago we said we'd be releasing a trailer in a months time, and lo and behold, here it is. If you haven't already seen it that is:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6S-V_9Kuj6Y

You can also view it on Moddb aswell: http://www.moddb.com/mods/flood-campaign-project/videos

Now however, it's time to examine the Health System and Health(Flood)Pack that were shown in the trailer. Things that were either discreetly or magnanimously shown in the trailer we'll be the subject of the next few News Posts.

As for this news post, we have the HUD and healthpack, and here they are:

This is the HUD with the player health and full.

This is the HUD with player health and almost empty:

And this, this is the Floodpack (The new flood-styled health pack we're using):

Keen observers will also notice a blue tentacle looking object on the screen. This is the new navpoint we're using.

And here's a video of the Health system, HUD and Health(Flood)pack in action:
