Yah but also, how would we get the door top open in the drop pod if we dont have one? Would we need to hurry up and get to that part in the level b4 one docks with the camera?

Also: wouldn't it be cooler to see it docking then just being inside?

In my opinion, you should combine the two. Cutscene begins with the boarding craft attaching to a damaged Halcyon class cruiser. The camera fades black (while black it switches to the inside of the boarding craft, but player cannot see the change). Shaking sound begins and then lights inside of the craft turn while the player is in FP view. Game begins. Pow.

I like the idea for having the master chief walking by in that room above the cryochamber room. Colin I like your ideas about the Pillar of Autumn except for the fact that there are no Spec-Ops Covenant in that level. You should play as an Elite Major, or a red Elite. I had the idea that in every level you'd be a different Elite leading a new squad of covenant. I don't want to make a new Arbitor-like character that you play as in every level. You should only get to play as Spec-Ops Elites in the later levels, where they show up.

Technicly it's not a new character you just dont see him in the halo series normaly. Playing as different elites would be wierd i think.

Fair enough. I was actually thinking of that but thought it would be unnecessary, but I was just going to use Zuka 'Zamamee and a Major Elite only. One for each level would be tedious because that would most certainly mean that most of the characters are dieing at the end of each. If your idea was to be followed, I would then suggest having roughly the first half of the campaign played by a major elite who leads two minor elites, while the second half of the campaign (introducing the flood) is played by a Spec Ops Officer (namely Zuka), who himself leads two other Spec Ops Elites and two Spec Ops Grunts.

EDIT: In fact, it could just be like in Halo 2. One level is the Major Elite, the other it is the Spec Ops. That way, one could still try and stay close to the novel but experience being a covenant soldier in all of the maps.

Have the last section of the level (a10 Pillar of Autumn) you and a squad of Grunts/Elites attempting to escape before Keyes crashes it into the ring like he does in the game. Or you could have it so you have to get to the human lifepods on the other side of the ship and then you capture Keyes just before the ship crashes.

One problem with that idea: Keyes was captured on Halo, not on the PoA before it crash landed.

Well, the idea is you play as the 'Extermination' team sent by the Fleet Commander (Current Arbiter) to eradicate the Flood presence on the crashed cruiser and prepare it for immediate departure. In this level you start on the ground, dropped off by a spirit transport, you must fight your way to the grav lift from here, and enter the ship, from here, you make your way to the control room where the brain form is, and eliminate the flood here, you are assisted by another 2 squads of spec op elites and grunts due to the large number o flood in here (Hint hint ;D). Once that is done, you make your way to the dropship in the hangar, and head towards the crashed PoA. Which is the next level.

Also, another idea VMT and I have been throwing around, Flood controlled vehicles, not as in Flood are driving it (techinically they are, but I'm not getting into that now), but as in Flood biomass on the vehicles, like a dropship or something. Maybe a warthog e.t.c.

I found a flaw in the idea :O . If you were sent in to eradicate the flood, which you did, and then ready it for immediate departure, then why do you abandon ship right after it's cleaned?

:O. Plot-hole lol. Ok, well how about a squad of spec op elites and grunts are fighting in the hangar with you. And they stay behind to secure the ship. Also, Gamma accept my invitation on xfire lol.

Never played it personally, the map I mean. But my idea fits canon, and is already in the Halo 1 story-line, so, no, its not a copy.

I got it! After you secure the ship, you get intel that the Chief is on the Pillar of Autumn, and you get redirected there :)

I wanted to make sure that you got a chance to play as a Gold Elite with a plasma sword as his main weapon in one of the levels. In one level you should start as a Gold Elite or a Black Elite with 2 Hunters by your side as your allies. I'd like to mix up who you play as and thats why I thought it would be better if there wasn't a specific Elite you have to play as. Like VMT said a while back, not necessarily every member of the Covenant has to be killed, so they don't have to die by the end of the level like colin said.

When I think about this project I was leaning towards always keeping the camera in 3rd person, that way you feel like you're not playing as Master Chief.

In the first few levels you should be an Elite Major, and in a level like assault on the control room or any level where you fight Gold Elites you should play as them. Then in the last four levels, the Library, Two Betrayals, Keyes, and the Maw, you should be a Spec-Ops Elite.

As long as you get to have different allies in the levels and you get to play as different Elite ranks it'd be good

Is there a way to script it so you play in 3rd person instead of first? Thats what i wanted to. Sort of like Star Wars Battle Front 2

The problem with being an Elite using an energy sword in 3rd person, is that you can't swing the sword voluntarily. The original sword only hits someone if you run at them. Obviously, that wouldn't be reasonable, as that removes the feel of "being in control"

thats why we change animations as we have a animator and we change it to halo 2 sword type thing so its not if you just run into them?

He's right, Energy Sword is useless vs Flood Infection forms. Even in H2. You'd be better off having the energy sword pick-upable in a certain area in a massive melee fight vs the Flood, that would be cool lol.

well i'll edit this post some times to add i think, but anyways

For the sword, just use the lunge script i guess?

I don't think that commanders, even though very skilled, only carry a primary weapon, and let that weapon be short range, i'd expect them carrieng a beam rifle too perhaps (or the standard PR lol)

Yes it's possible to make it third person without external app, in guerilla you can change camera option to warthog or whatever view you want instead of "tight first person", havn't tested it yet though

I don't know how hard it's gonna be making ingame cutscenes, but i remember something very old about being able to use AVI's as cutscenes? making renders or just doing a good machinima result would be quicker to do, with serious actors, but that's IF there was a possability to use AVI's ingame, very old topic

Yayap reminds me of when that grunt said something about ni pple burgers and crispy juice at the maw run...

some covie easter eggs in the campaign would be ftw

Ah yes. Indeed. 3rd Person. Intriguing, it is. Exciting, it will be. Interesting.

P.S. If you will be able to through grenades, it will need to be fixed. As an elite, when you through them, it simply falls straight down at your feet for some reason.

EDIT: Also, you should include the weapon-on-back mod where you can see your secondary weapon. With 3rd person, I think this will add that extra bit of realism and quality.

first of all, the nade falls at your feet? wtf? you're not looking down i hope? every elite model throws it, it even has it's own animation, just takes a bit longer to thaw them compared to MC =P

yea some backpack would be nice, but if it were that easy then we'd all done it i guess, i've looked into that and concluded it would take some time to do that, first we've gotta decide wich models to use, the standard ones? Hdoans elites? rip them ourselfes? model a new one?
after that we should look into that yea

PS: gimme some reasons to post screenshots, i'm gfx addict <3

I might read it.

Advanced Bo: We need an animator :D lol also the h1 docking pod is not that hard to make im thinking because its alot more simple then the h2 one. Unless we could somehow find one and desect it's livings and import it to 3ds max for animations.

While youre on it..Read all of them:P

Also, with the backpack weapons, you'd have to completely redo it, because the script and biped released is for a Halo 2 MasterChief.

holy sjaz nvm then

Left one is HDoan's elite, right one is, obviously, standard elite, little vote on what we're basing the elites on? not that it has to be either one, just to get a better image of the whole thing =P

Yes, when you play as a grunt or elite and throw a grenade, it just falls down at your feet, no matter where you are looking.

As for the model, I say you keep it Halo CE. Using new models will just leak away all the fun of being an elite - keep it as the Halo 1 model.

And with the backpack script, I got as far as to adding the new nodes to the biped for a small and large weapon. As for the actual script, I guess you will need to do some research on that, or try and find a tutorial on that. I'll try and find one if there are any, or ask some people whom I know have already made such a mod.
