I just removed the third person and made it first person again, the people who like it third person can download an external app! hah, now everyone's happy, for sure i'm not gonna script a trigger for Q because people can't choose :/ When is the Team going to work on other aspects of the mod except me? this works for me...I have that program halothirdfov. Just don't forget to consider what things look like from the 3rd person perspective. Also try to make it so that you can also see your ammo, grenades, radar, and shield/health while in 3rd person mode if you can. This way everyone will be happy. That sword looks good now...can't make it glow blue like the halo 1 sword though huh?
And about that cloaking, I was gonna mention that because I remembered the Arbitor had something similar. I like this idea, the cloaking should be only last a short time of course. You could make that the Flashlight button, or the switch grenades button.
Oh and it's not the spec ops that have cloaks but no shields, it's those light bluish Elites that do.
Remember what I said about making those same light bluish Elites without the cloaks and have them exclusively carry carbines? I thought that was a cool idea, but not for the first level. Just remember that for a later level. Is the beam rifle in that picture straight from Halo 2? or did you make it? thatd be cool to get the exact one from halo 2...just a thought.
and I agree with Colin, retexturing the elite is the least of our concerns...we should really focus on everything else and make that our last priority. I don't know what kind of retextures you are thinking of but they couldn't be better than Halo 1's default Elite texture? I'd still prefer that you didn't even bother with it, but if you insist... well thats good to know. To decide what weapons to give to your allies I suggest following the campaign for what to give them. In other words...don't put a weapon in a level that doesn't belong there or was never there in campaign, for example putting the Fuel Rod Gun in the Pillar of Autumn or a Needler in the Pillar of Autumn. To diversify the levels you should make it so not every weapon is available at the start, and further into the game more weapons will become available, like Fuel Rod Guns or a Plasma sword already in your inventory. Might as well not bother putting the Plasma Sword somewhere on a map to get picked up, just have a select few levels where you start with the sword in your inventory and that'll be fine.

don't worry about improving things cosmetically. Read my post about improving bump possession. That'd be a neat application to use on this project, that way the Elite would always be the starting character but if you wanted you could run the improved bump possession program and play as any other covenant member without having one of them being a sitting duck. I could go either way. I for one do have the external 3rd person view application...and actually I'm gonna have to go with cloaking because I like to be able to adjust what the 3rd person view looks like, If the 3rd person angle you choose is permanently that way and I happen to want to change it, I can only do that with the program so I say go for temporary cloaking. However we can't make the cloaking cheap in any way...maybe put a limitation as to how many times you can use it in 1 level?
PS colin if anyone wants the 3rd person application I can (or others) can send them out. The only reason I'm saying that we shouldn't have the view switch is because people have different preferences or ideas about how far away they want the camera from the character to be, whether or not the crosshair is off the side or right above the character, ect. So I say unless you can adjust the 3rd person camera somehow like the application HalothirdFOV or if for some reason an external application doesn't work, I suggest the cloaking.
