I am just little worried. Do you guys think halo ce will die slowly like people will stop modding and stuff?
To be fair this game has gotten way too old. I don't want it to die. But it does make me happy that halo ce community is making it alive.

As far as player population, and a pool of talented map-makers/modders is concerned this community is as dead as it gets.

The playercount peaks to about anywhere between 850-1500 a day. in terms of playerbase, probably will not die anytime soon. In terms of mods, maybe. but it seems that many modders inspired by things like CMT show up, most of them will not succeed sadly, but the mod base is also growing alot. Classic games like Halo will never die. Edited by MEGASEAN2812 on Mar 10, 2015 at 10:50 PM

When the 5 or 6 not-dead servers that actually host custom maps die. Otherwise you're just playing Halo PC through CE's launcher. Edited by OrangeJuice on Mar 10, 2015 at 11:29 PM

I'll honestly, truely, go after Takedown: Extermination is finished. I have been thinking about this for a long time actually. CE3 2015 was a bit iffy decision right off of CE3 2014, but in the end there was no reason for me to not do it again this year. (Not saying I won't do CE3 2016/2017 if people want it, but I probably will no longer be making maps for it if Takedown is done)
Sierra 117 will probably be released in some form before Takedown: Extermination is released. However I do not see that coming anytime this year. So I'll probably be gone late 2016/2017 at latest.
My interest have shifted and I no longer care for gameplay. I just want to make cool animated shorts or series, however because of Halo, I don't have time to learn the programs to do such things in.
Still though, I don't want a 1/2 finished series in my history, so I won't leave until Takedown is done. Edited by MatthewDratt on Mar 10, 2015 at 11:49 PM

I have been hearing this trope for over ten year now. It wasn't true then and it's not true now. Halo CE was declared dead on arrival and that was back in 2004 before most of you were barely out of diapers.

why so pessimistic dude? TSC:E just came out and it's already grabbing attention from the Xbox fanbase... Thanks to Ifafudafi and Masterz and the CMT team I think they just added another 5 - 10 years to Halo CE's lifespan.. I may be wrong though...

You never know. Some one might reverse engineer the reach engine for open sauce. Even so "HaloCE" is still great and that will never change.
I love the "Halo Maps Forum" and will keep coming back here forever. I have learned so much from this site. It is the only place to go to learn about halo animation, halo texture mapping and best of all "Adjutant". Everything you want to know about Halo stuff you can find here.
Edited by SciFi on Mar 11, 2015 at 02:28 AM True. Halo helped me how to animate and this can help me animate other games like gta v and half life.. well I am still getting there. Edited by sshers4 on Mar 11, 2015 at 03:10 AM

www.google.com/trends/explore#q=halo%20custom%20edition From google trends stats, halo custom edition should be completely dead by 2017-2018, to me. But that agony is terribly slow. This also shows that around 80% of the community as it is now are latinos. I'm also pretty sure that things could change by spamming youtube of videos with good stuff, but they will be drown in the sea of other horrible maps if this is ever tried.

If you compare halo CE to halo 3, or later halos The research amounts are so little that they reach 0 in comparison.

it has been a bummer having shown up back in 2010 as a complete newb and seeing some of the best people we had dissapear slowly. the highly skilled section of this community is slowly dwindling, and not many of the new guys are coming up to fix that issue.
i blame the severe lack of help being given out on this forum to new guys

I won't leave. I promised this community back in 2010 when CE3 first aired I'll always find a way to show off this game and keep it alive. As long as there are people around to mod and make new maps for this game, CE3 will still exist to promote them. So no I don't see this game ever dying.
CE will live on until the community dries out. That won't happen though since we gain new members daily.

i blame the severe lack of help being given out on this forum to new guys Bro, I've been lurking around since 2009 as well, I also had an account in 2010 which was perma banned because I leaked Halo Reach spoilers lol.. but besides that.. you're right, the cool modders are slowly dwindling away. I myself tried going into modding by following numerous tutorial videos on gmax and HCE HEK.. wasn't a good experience :/ I'll try doing it some day thought Edited by Halo305sparts on Mar 11, 2015 at 08:06 PM

I've been here since the beginning and honestly it seems like there are more players now than there were back then. Certainly more people playing custom maps.
And yes I'm being 100% serious. Before HAC2 and OS were introduced, the amount of servers hosting custom maps was very weak. Now it's slightly less weak with at least twice as many active servers with people playing custom maps.
I don't think CE's going anywhere, Google stats be damned. The game is a weird phenomenon - it's becoming more accessible over time with more and more free content available. I'm not saying it will never die, but I definitely don't think it would be impossible for the game to maintain a steady average playerbase for a long long time.

well today we had 3000or more players and 800 servers this goes up and down but halo ce will not die as long as CmT spv3 is here and me and hell a lot of the mappers that are working on something good and nice. I mean take a look at DOOM that has over 2000 players and that game is king of all old games so halo ce will be around for some time to come Edited by DOOM899 on Mar 12, 2015 at 01:58 AM

Now it's slightly less weak with at least twice as many active servers with people playing custom maps. I agree. I've been here on and off since at least 06 and every time I come back I get surprised that the game is bigger than I remember it being. With bottom-end PC's now being able to run this game well, the potential playerbase has exploded (thanks Mexico!). OS and HAC provide features the game sorely needed since its release, and now people play on servers with ROTATING map pools! SAPP gives server adminstrators access to features which were previosuly restricted to the (near mythical) rec0 app, and so much more (no lead!). This game isn't going anywhere for the foreseeable future. It also helps that it's by far the best version of a Halo game on the PC.

To be fair this game has gotten way too old. I don't want it to die. But it does make me happy that halo ce community is making it alive. Games don't "Die" Though people do stop playing it. Of course people will get bored by halo after all people get bored by everything so it's not just a fault of the game. I think that some of the best modders here will leave to try and make their own projects that will actually pay off. I wish this was a game from valve because projects like SPV3 would have a real good chance of being allowed to be sold for money and hell if it was a valve game they would probably give more control over the engine like they did with mods like black mesa or even Sven co op (mod for half-life 1). But sadly that will never happen here. I don't think that people will stop playing Halo Ce since there will always be new players who will want to try the game but as people in previous threats said "They might just come here to shoot some rockets for a few hours and leave". New players will always come but new modders will be hard to find. I started playing CE for the adventures. It was fun, but nowadays everyone cares about playing in classic maps. "Jajaja"ing away, shooting from across the map and whining.

All around there world there a various clubs, gangs, clans, fans, collectors and the like there of all enthusiastic and encompassed by there own gaming fetishes. It's preposterous to think that CE will not live on. Unless the feds do this:
