Just doing a survey to get some numbers on what the most common field-of-view the Halomaps community plays at is.

See the below link to vote, the options go up in increments of 10 so feel free to pick whichever option is closest to what you play at. If you play at an FOV higher than 115° or something else that doesn't fit into the poll, let me know in your post.

I normally play on a 90° fov, I play on that because that's about the right fov for the distance I sit from my monitor, also stuff doesn't look stretched (I played on 110° before though).
I look at it from a window perspective, the closer you go the higher your fov is through it.

by the way, 70° is the default fov, os makes sets it to ~85 if you're using widescreen ~16:9 to give you the same vertical fov as people who play on 70° on a 4:3 monitor.

Serious question, why didn't you include options like 70 - 80 - 10 - 100 - 110?
If you only have limited options you should do stuff like this:
70 - 80
81 - 90
91 - 100
101 - 110
111 - 120
120+

90 if playing competitively. Gives a great view of peripherals without sacrificing clarity in the center, or making your reticle area so zoomed out as to be ineffective

90° all day, everyday. 70° for machinima and making thumbnails, 50° for close ups and 135° for incredibly tight places.

Yeah not the best poll options since 70 is default and 90 is OS default.

I make my FOV constantly oscillating because it feels better and I don't have to make a choice

80 at 4:3
85-90 on 16:9

I animate at 80 now as well so sorry to those who are using 70 or below. Given, you won't notice many issues though the gun may appear "closer." I have always taken into account 4:3 and 16:9 from 70-90 for my animations though.

All you people at 100 and above are just insane and don't deserve my special attention :P

I play on 105° at 16:9. It's perfect, anything 90 or below just feels limiting and doesn't give me the freedom of sight and movement I need for FFA.

I build my maps with 90degrees fov in mind since I figure thats what a majority of people leave it at since its OS's default. Takedown:PL and before I made for 70 degrees. Since TD:PLv1.1 and future, Im working with 90.

Mostly between 90 and 100 due to that being Xbox Default
Between 120 or 130 for scrims

Generally 80-90 looks fine for games. IIRC humans see naturally at ~103 degrees. For some reason I haven't found a single game that works a FOV that high and looks good (although I hear Quake has ridiculous FOV)

You can change your FOV in Quake.

I play with ~120 on Halo.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but the console halos have always been on 70fov (not counting splitscreen) or 80 for odst.

I'm not sure what's the exact FOV of H1 on xbox, it could be something like 85, unlike the 70 on PC port. I play it sometimes when friends come over, and it definitely looks a bit different. (I don't mean the 100+ degrees on splitscreen)

Oh, I see. It's probably because by default the game crops the image on PC if you use a widescreen resolution. (That was before widescreen fixes like yelo, sky's the limit and HAC2) And that's why it looks different on my old 4:3 tube TV playing Xbox Halo... it shows everything.

110
I find it's best for mid range.
I also like to change it up sometimes and play at 109.
For the record the default FoV is 70
BTW enjoy the bump.
