Me and buddy each bought Halo PC today. Downloaded the latest patch from Bungie. We can join games that other have created just fine, but we are unable to Create/Host games online without it saying Your CD KEY is Invalid. I can also create/host LAN games.
How can we host our own games or are we missing something?

How can we host our own games or are we missing something? Did you buy them used? It's most likely that the key is already being used by someone else considering Microsoft doesn't make any new keys for Halo anymore. I believe that you can host a dedicated server and disable the CD-Key check but i'm not sure how you go about that.

if you guys both have the same cd key you will be unable to join each others games. if you bought a cd key then be warned that sometimes you get ones that have already been used.
imo i think you didn't buy it and this story is a line of BS in order to get someone to help you and then noone will suspect you of using a pirated key Edited by killzone64 on Aug 23, 2014 at 10:44 PM

That's kinda what I'm thinking, but wanted to make sure there wasn't something special you had to do or maybe they disabled it in the patch before I accuse the guy of selling me bad keys.
Actually got it on ebay. Guy was selling quite a few of them. But if the key is already in use/invalid, why does it work fine when joining other ppl's games and hosting LAN games?\
Thanks
Just to show that I bought it...

its the odd way cd keys work in halo.... you can play online just fine but you cant host ingame and you cannot join games that contain someone with the same cd key... (also if someone using the same key gets banned from a server you will also be banned from that server, halo bases its player id's off of the cd key hash

Thanks Halos method of DRM is strange. As long as you have a CD-Key for Halo: CE it will work fine and you will be able to join servers that disable said CD-Key check which is almost all of them. This however means that if you used a CD-Key from someone else you may be banned on certain servers since the bans are tied to CD-Keys. You can't host your own if it is being used by multiple people however. Dedicated server is the only way you can do it. Edit: Killzone beat me to it. Edited by General_101 on Aug 23, 2014 at 10:57 PM

Sounds a bit like you were ripped off. Blacklisted CD keys will give you an invalid key warning, as will keys that were generated with a keygen. Ask for your money back / file a dispute. Edit: Tracked down the seller to take a look at their profile (blacking their name out doesn't help when you can see the listing title). See this. Edited by Btcc22 on Aug 23, 2014 at 11:49 PM

I've already sent him a message. Waiting on his response first before I open a dispute. Didn't even think about the listing title. I was just trying to protect his name until I knew for sure that it wasn't something that we were doing wrong.
Thanks again.

I know this is going to sound suspect, but you should PM me what your key is, and I'll tell you if it's part of the "common eight."
Actually, just google your key. If it turns up any results you've been screwed.

Frequently Rash Obsessed Stupid Twit Yuckbuddy. Hey buddy, if you wanna talk all that crap to me. Talk to me on Skype you little bitch. :^) I don't use skype. Or even have an account. Or by further extension have it installed. By the way you did you not say a few threads ago you were not frosty? O.o it seems we have arrived at a contradiction.
