So, a quick question on open sauce, (not necessarily directed at you killa unless you are helping on development) is there ever going to be dynamic decals on scenery like bullet holes, burn marks and other things that are created dynamically from ingame weapons discharge or is this 100% impossible? Damn it! Popular threads move fast! (I guess it is just a reflection of how talented jesse and others are) @: Jesse, Unfortunately I don't take part in the whole Xfire gig, it is woefully stupendous I know but I feel I don't have time to make that commitment, and I would rather not have xfire than risk making people sad by not answering there messages when there is no time to. Will facebook do? https://www.facebook.com/sskantus.ssmt.3 Also, I was wondering if you would be able to make a couple tutorials on how to do........well what you do. (map making wise, building one) When your not busy of course, give me a shout and I'll provide you with the software.

Edited by eliteslasher on Dec 1, 2013 at 12:16 AM There is a cap limit on how many things can draw on a non-bsp object. Ambient light, shader model, dynamic lights, all add up. FS said that more effects such as gel maps on non-bsp objects would be possible by the reorganization of the shader structure. But would be a lot of work.

I wouldn't bother counting Brian out until the voice actor actually dies or they kill the whole series. I can almost guarantee he will be back. Also, is this decals on objects with or without OS?

Whoops, I think FRAPS had recorded what I had on winamp at the time. I'll probably be getting rid of the audio if I can find out how; I don't want anymore problems with copyright and all. And I don't understand what you mean by 'good holes'. It's not the stock bullet decal, rather one found on google if that's what you're getting at.
@Elite
It's without OS. I doubt what I did would be practical for all objects, however, as .garbage tags (or .decals for that matter) do not adhere to objects. This means the surface needs to remain stationary for it to look correct. I also had to use a new decal, as I didn't have the option of utilizing any framebuffer blending in a .gbxmodel. They do have the benefit of disappearing on their own after a set time, or being the first to be deleted by the engine if there are too many objects, so there's that though.

It wouldn't have to move for my thoughts. My thoughts are just to have scenery work as part of a BSP. I am sort of a realism whore (don't crucify me Dennis, it's merely an expression) and I just can't stand how stationary objects do not take decals. It's always bugged me. Anyway, thank you for divulging this to me. I may have to find out later how this was accomplished from you or something. Now I just need to find out how to draw lightmaps to stationary scenery and I may be all set!

NP. All I did was I had the weapon's projectile's impact effect create a .projectile at the 'normal' marker (perpendicular to the impacted surface) that travels 0.005 WU before 'detonating'. The detonation effect creates a new .garbage tag composed of a single, simple plane with the bullet hole texture as the .gbxmodel, all the while being unaffected by gravity.
If I knew of a way to put up a .zip of the tags somewhere quickly, I would.

Pretty cool, I would 'fake' this by putting invisible collision in the same spot as the scenery, but that's kinda pointless. Hopefully most of The Pit will be BSP, that way I won't need to figure out any workarounds for decals :o

Right. No need for complex hoop jumping unless it's necessary. I had some free time so I was like I KAN DO DAT.
My initial theory was to have the .projectile's .gbxmodel be the plane, and have the texture drawn when the projectile embeds itself (response of 'attach') in an object, but I didn't know wtf I was doing.

I honestly feel sorry for 343. They're in a Catch-22 type situation. If they change Halo, people will hate it for being different. But if they don't change anything, people will dismiss it as just a reskinned version of the previous game (like what people think of CoD).

^Exactly. Actually, my only real problem with the story is that it relies too much on external media to make sense (books, terminals, etc) which isn't really a problem for me since I read all the books. Side note: After reading the books/playing spartan ops, Jul 'Mdama is the most interesting character ever

Small update: Changes include: - Added fence, and fence posts - added the fencing on the side of the ramps - added detail to bullet panels - added detail to the sword room building - modeled in one of the previous ramps mentioned - lots of crap that I don't remember
