I just noticed what has been bothering me this whole time

Is there any way to make the metal panels look more metallic?

everything looks like it is made from the same material, and there is a general lack of detail in the bsp

I know about the poly limit, but it's just something that has been bothering me

textures are excellent though

E: also, the FP arms need more gloss




see how the metal panels are reflective, can you do something like that?

I think you really need to revise your shaders to match Halo 3 alot better, and stop running debug lightmaps. It's very noticeable!

I think the shaders are somewhat close, at least in specularity and material IDs, but its impossible to replicate that shiny reflectiveness without totally mucking it up for other angles. At some point it just becomes about trade-off.

The lightmaps are 'HQ' but halo's radiosity is a piece of dump. We're working on hopefully getting it lit up using those fancy-scmancy 3ds lighting setups.

bourrin's H3 biped actually did a pretty good job with replicating the shiny-ness

Thing is, shader_model reflectivity /= shader_environment reflectivity.

The shader I liked at most in Halo was the bloodgulch blue base panels, panels unhearthed ext I think. You should try to use the cubemap from my reach bipeds , not the one with the reflection and stick it on that. I'm not sure it will look good though

We're not running final lightmaps just to test one change. Lately I've been running debug ones (25 mins) to test changes in the BSP UVs.

as for modding the forge objects, I'd say leave it as flexible as possible without sacrificing tag space

Make the ball a rollable vehicle and you win. Look at haloball.map for refs.

We don't need the trip mine or bubble shield, those would be weapon tags that don't work too well in CE.

Done with all the detail junk. I've spent all of yesterday and today modeling and unwrapping this crap and I'm tired. If I have to model any more of this I'll go insane.

Yeah the stains need more transparency or at least interact with the lighting in a better manner.

Edit: In all seriousness, is the grate at the top scenery or BSP? The fog looks weird on it.

You mean the new braces? It looks odd, I know. It's one of those things I never figured out with Halo. Some shaders look clear in fog while others fade properly.

I hope quite the contrary. Halo 3 maps ports should contain Halo 3 stuff. Random assorted tags should be kept away I think. (For the original release at least.)
