A self-fulfilling prophecy of endless possibility

Jesus, how big is that weapon?? I really like the design of the barrel, but it seems overly huge - Im looking at the grip, mostly. If the average length of a grip is about 130mm, that gun is impractically large. I have my own ideas on where I would take the design but its your work, so I'll leave it at that. Looks pretty cool so far.

I will agree that the grip is a tad too small, but the weapon itself is meant to be that large. It is supposed to me moved around and fired by a team of 2 or 3 marines, or one Spartan. The weapon itself would way a good 200 lbs.

Well, after getting some useful crit from the folks over at modacity, I simplified the design of the gauss rifle from the last page and drew this.

http://www.bobble.tucker933.com/wp2.png

That looks cool :D I reccomend you drawing a hand next to your future drawing, your brain should do the rest for proportions

Looks good but I personally prefer your sketches compared to your computer drawings

Well, I completed the first draft of a heavy gauss rifle. It is extremely heavy and takes a team to position and fire. The weapon itself must be mounted on a surface with the bipod assembly before being fired.

Note, I took this picture with my webcam, so it isn't very good quality. When I finish the design, I will scan it like the others.

I tried to reduce the amount of greeble on this one, but didn't do too well xP

You need to learn how to model and fast cause thats seriously good.

Also computer sketches are just as good once you've sketched on paper since it's easy to model with.

I think it needs to look a bit more blocky to look human. Right now it looks like a hybrid between Covenant and UNSC designs, which is good if that's what you were going for.

Well, considering the Covenant are more advanced than the humans, it would probably be a good idea to try to copy them in some way.

Bungie seriously have no idea how human brains work.

What we would be saying if the Covenant existed:
Yo got better tech' than us? Ima stealin' that brother!

You are trying to stuff a large amount of detail into a simple silhouette.

Weapons research takes a looooong time. If this was in use at any point before the Schism it needs to look more human.

Considering it's in the future and methods of research are always speeding up, even now, by then, weapons research would probably take no longer than 2 or 3 months.

Haha, I had a feeling that was going to be your reaction.

I started on a 3D perspective, but I haven't been having much luck. I will probably start working with Photoshop, or I may try sketching the the 3D perspectives and scan them.

Are you seriously using a animation package to do "concept" art... lines mean nothing, a line design is the FIRST step to designing concepts and is used to find a nice outline.

Actually yes I am using flash for my concept art, I apologize if that is a problem.

The designs Im making are going towards a portfolio that is very likely to get me in to a cryengine 3 dev team to work with a very talented modeller that you know.

The main reason I am using it is that the drawing tools are very intuitive and easy to use, and because I know how to use it very well already, as maniac showed. I also can use Flash to make animations to show the functions and moving parts of any weapon I am designing.

Also, did I state anywhere that these where final? That these were anything more than what the title says? You didn't exactly explain what the issue was with the detail or lack of in the designs that I have posted.

Wasn't what I was lol'ing about, more so that you quite explicitly stated you don't want people to critic your work and that you "don't care" if it made sense yet you expect to use it in a portfolio.

On a side node:

No being wrong doesn't suck, being wrong is part of learning, if that's how you look at it it would explain why you lost your temper at neuro.

Being wrong is part of learning, I agree, and Bobblehob's attitude to life is rather misguided, but maybe you should stop trolling, Sprinkle, and stop posting pms publicly? Some of us haven't visited this thread for a while and want to see concept art instead of random trolls' posts.

E: After getting past both Sprinkle's and Anonymous's rather pointless posts, I found Bobblehob's animated concept of an assault rifle. It looks amazing! Looks like a fixed default AR, that actually looks like it works unlike Bungie's design.

You honestly are making yourself look stupid.

Take a look on the first page and then to the second last. He sure as hell has been listening to crit.

So again, I facepalm at your post.

LMAO! Wow. So, Josh is modelling some of your "concepts" so that makes any crit you receive invalid?

Oh but apparently you have been listening to some in the early pages of this thread, but now all of a sudden you decide not to. You need to grow up, I will give you some proper crit tomorrow when I have time then, maybe you will listen then.

Did I ever say that crit I received was invalid? No, I didn't. You didn't offer any crit, you just told me I was an idiot for using flash to draw my concepts, and that the line work wasn't important , you gave no crit on the work itself.

@Sprinkle, I have been listening to crit that people have been giving me, here and on modacity, if you actually took a second or two to look at those threads you would see that. When you come to my thread and troll, then you make the owner of said thread angry and liable to lash out when you act stupid. I did so, it may not have been the right thing, but you still deserved every word of it.

Quote: Wasn't what I was lol'ing about, more so that you quite explicitly stated you don't want people to critic your work and that you "don't care" if it made sense yet you expect to use it in a portfolio.

Hmm, if you read the post more closely you would realize that I specifically mentioned criticism about the concepts in terms of realism and and or practicality were they to be made into real weapons. Other than that I have been open to and working with the crit that I have been given.

As far as my reaction to Neuro is concerned, he specifically posted his professional modelling work in my thread of comparatively unprofessional concepts with the express purpose of making me look bad. In light of that little show of asinine behavior, I got angry and lashed out at him, and not at all politely telling him to leave my thread. I had done nothing to provoke or disrespect him, yet he comes to my thread and acts like a complete jackass, so I think I was perfectly within my rights to be angry at him.

Don't post trash like this, cause if you'd know him even a bit you'd realise how completely wrong you are.

Thanks,
Your local lodeman

And Neuro is just an "online badass". I doubt he's an ass like that in real life. Why people act like that online? If Neuro were a dog and I was Cesar Milan, I'd assume his agressive behaviour comes forth from some form of nervousness or insecurity.

How to deal with this? Poke him and yell "tssss" :p

You can acknowledge the dog, if it's in the right state of mind. You can then give affection :-)
Become the pack leader your dog needs you to be. The dog must learn not to associate posting on the forums with hostility. It must learn that we will not let the dog come to any harm on the forums, it must build up trust and respect towards us :-)
