Hi,

I have modelled, textured, and rigged a pair of FP Arms for a map pack that my brother and I intend to make and now I am trying to export and compile it.

When I tried exporting the model it said, Warning some vertices are weighted to more than two bones, but then it continued and let me export. Is this going to be a problem?

Also, when I tried to compile it with tool it doesn't work. Tool doesn't seem to see the .jms file

I have made several weapons, but never a pair of fp arms before, so if anyone can give me any advice please do.

Thanks.

multiple bones isn't a problem, I don't even know why it even bothers popping that warning up

what does your folder structure look like, where you're trying to compile from

1. is the file saved in the folder data/characters/USsoldier/fp/models?
2 in tool did you type: tool model data/characters/USsoldier/fp?

Look, fp hands cannot have multiple bones being rigged to one single vertex, everytime i have tried fp hands rigged with multiple bones, the fp hands do not show up ingame at all, all you see is your hud, no weapons.

Really?? Wow, that kinda stinks.

Okay, thanks for your response. Do you think that could be causing my compiling problem?

there's no telling. try re-rigging all the verts to be 100% influenced by bones and see how it works

It automatically goes into the "data" folder so you don't need to that into the command prompt.

In characters\USSoldiers\fp, create a new folder called "models" without quotation marks and put your jms in there, then in tool you type tool model characters\ussoldier\fp

YES!!! Thank you.

I can't believe I forgot to make the "models" folder... Duh, thank you.

Okay, so now I just need to work out the multiple bones problem.

I'd say try it first however you rigged it and see if it works, no point in re-rigging if it's already going to work

Yeeaaaa.... I was just thinking the same thing, but then I realized that I don't know how to get it into game to test it.

Like I said, I usually work on weapons (someone else makes the fp arms). So does anyone know how I can get this pair of arms into Halo to test the rig?

Thanks.

Okay, so if I set the "bone affect limit" to 2 then I don't have to re-rig the model?

Don't listen to HaloIsAHorribleGane

That guy doesn't really have much experience in this area.

Like mentioned above^^ the only areas where you would distribute weight on vertices for two bones or nodes it typically joints and fingers in this case,0.5 0.5 between nodes or bones.

Never go over the limit or have vertices with zero weights as it will cause the error."vertices "#" looked like garbage.

Okay, I now have the arms rigged correctly, exported, and compiled without error.

So, does anyone know of a tutorial on how to get custom FP arms in-game?

Thanks for all ya'lls help so far.

it should be in the character or globals tags

You were right, I found it in globals.

Unfortunately my FP arms are not showing up in-game. I think it is just because they are not compatible with the default animations, so I am going to make a simple idle animation or somthing to see if I can get them to show up.

Thanks.

That's exactly what happens to me even with custom animations, this only happened to rigs with more than one vertex rigged to more than two bones error thing. I do not know how to fix this unless you re-rig.

If there IS another way though, maybe someone else with more knowledge on this can care to elaborate.

Unfortunately it wont let me post pictures for another 3 days since I am new to the forum.

I probably need to re-weight the arms, but I am going to try a custom animation first (just in case they work)

Thanks

Here are two pics. One is just a render of the arms so that you can see the model I am working with, the other is a screenshot of the bones with the select by name window open so that you can see the heirarchy. (You can only see the heirarchy for the left arm, but the right arm is 100% identicle just sibstitute the l in every name for an r.)
