If your going to do these box maps, I sugest you smooth out the sides. You can see the really squarey-rectangulary-boxxy parts of the map. Select the upper and lower vertex and move them inwards so it looks smoothed out at least. plus, I don't like the uber pointy hills, but if you like them, then keep them. Ordinarily, people make crappy maps and never release them. They do it for the experience. Once they have a modicum of knowledge about map making and that it is adequate to create a decent/playable/exciting/enjoyable map, then they release it. Right now you're on your way to making better maps. I would advise you not to release everything you make, but instead, compare it to some of the better ones we have around. That is how people become better, through exprience and criticism(Although some people here can't crit very well). Treat your first few maps as schooling. Once you're ready, you can tell that your map is worthy of a release.

Dude, I also recommend that you don't release this map. I never released the first five practice maps that I ever made. This map, let's face it, is only a quick heightmap with some verts moved up for hills. Keep practicing, and you will make some actually cool stuff.

qwertyuiop i told you how the move the vertices so that you would know how to smooth your cliffs and also to use them to make hills,fair enough guys his map isn't great but it's his first map...maybe it shouldn't have been uploaded seeing it was his first practice map the thing is,he's a kid who wanted to upload his first map on his favorite game...i can't argue with that.

Why are you fighting so hard to not have him release the things he spent time and effort on? Are you worried about it dragging down Halomap's quality or something? There's no reason he shouldn't release it - if someone enjoys the map, they'll download and play it, if they don't enjoy it then they'll skip over it. It's no big deal. A map doesn't need to look pretty to be fun.

same here my map looked similar to it,after all the first tutorial i downloaded and learned from was the yap yap.i knew by the tutorial that i could make hills by moving the vertices but because the tut didn't mention anything about the cliff one's i didn't think about it,i was proud of my first map... then i started looking at some of the maps other people were making and also looked closer at the standard maps in halo.iv'e been working on a map now for at least 3 months.it's taking a long time but there's just so much you can do. take your time with it and yeah i will be happy to see screenshots and even to recive it once it's finished Edited by ally on Dec 3, 2010 at 04:16 AM
