define 'regular modeling' and how it's different from 'weapon modeling'.

weapons have to be easy for the fp animator to rig and animate.

They differ a lot because it doesn't require as much detail at times and you can cheat because you get to put bump maps or overgrowth/etc onto it. For a weapon, you have to be able to detail it right but not too much, keep details that the animator will show, make it easy for him to be able to rig the weapon and just make the origin/animations in general. There's a lot of aspects that make it significantly different from modeling other things.

There's a lot of aspects that make it significantly different from modeling other things. I see what you're saying and you're right on that, but that goes for just about everything else that is supposed to be animated, not just weapon modeling. Modeling bipeds, scenery, devices, etc. require roughly the same amount of effort and compensation for the animator as weapons do IMO. You're right about the grip being off and how it's hard to create origins for (most likely), and I'm not a huge fan of the extrudes myself. If I get my hands on the model, I'll just probably fix it, not a big deal for me.

Quote: --- Original message by: ASP_GRUNTSQuote: --- Original message by: AdvanceboQuote: --- Original message by: ASP_GRUNTS Extrudes aren't random. Everything's based off ref. Rails are too small. They would be pointless extrudes. Rails that make proper sense to be there, won't be pointless. They add sensible detail, since the scope needs a way to attach. Adding random extrudes all over the side of the gun doesn't count as accuracy, since most of what you have, Bungie put into the textures with normals. Learn some optimization. Everything except those rails are on the gun. You think because I have the extrudes on the gun that are part of the texture, that it makes it NOT accurate? Tell me then, what's not accurate about it, other than what ODX pointed out about it being a bit off proportion. Now stfu bout them being random, it's getting annoying. They aren't random. If they are, tell me how, because they are there for a reason, BEING THAT I MODELED EVERYTHING I SAW. Does that count as random? Nope. If they were random, there would be no reason why I put them there. They aren't randomI modeled everything I saw on the refs because I wanted to challenge myself. Idc bout optimization because its only 6000 tiangles, which is well within the range of working without lag, even on my piece of **** pc. Should be 4000 or 4500.

So any updates on when the weapons will be out, or in a map? Maybe an AI or custome campaign like the CMT Single player Campaign?

My weapons used to be that little, but now they tend to be around 5000, sometimes higher. I think anything that doesn't exceed 6500 is low enough. If modeled correctly should not exceed 5000. Unless of course its an object such as a large vehicle with many parts.

oh hey guys. if your looking for a DMR.mine isn't skinned or animated yet but the model is almost perfect i think see it and give me your appinyon on it if you want it i mite think about posting it to be animated i'm already working on the skin http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pWkzKXo93yQ and i know that crosshair looks stupid.but it will look bettar and move when it is animated *this post has been edited*also it has the right sound effect and damage.and in that video you can see that i've made jetpack powered by the flashlight.since then i have also made the active camo powered by the flashlight and it does NOT use a script Edited by grunt_eater on Feb 4, 2011 at 12:09 AM

i have a reach picture that i made it from and some videos that i watched to get the fp perfect.and i'll be using various pictures and bitmaps to skin it P.S sorry that in the video i had my crosshair and the halo 1 pistol one overlapping i fixed that now
*this post has been edited* um something i forgot. does anyone know how to add a bullet counter cause i put the marker in but i'm not sure if i need to change the skin on the place where it is supposed to be to the actual bullet counter bitmap? Edited by grunt_eater on Feb 4, 2011 at 03:34 PM

Look at the battlerifle and assault rifles. I don't think you add markers for bullet counters, you assign a specific material to the faces.
