Spartan 094 has always been the personal army type of person. He would rather fight one person with a bunch of half-minded followers than actually prove his points on his own. Seriously? People rip for the same exact reason. People Rip so they can Have FUN. People make things so they can have FUN. Regardless if they add something original or not it all ends up in the same way. You really shouldn't go on if you join the same day you whine about ripping when you should actually contribute, and before you say something about "Ripping isn't contributing" perhaps something besides a brainless post would help.

-Using rips to heighten the 'quality' of your map will be frowned upon

-Using them to look around at tags/etc, is smiled upon (as long as you move on and make your own nice quality tags soon enough)
-Using them in your map, as long as used correctly (not butchered completely, proper credit given) is alright and if they were my tags, I would be happy someone is using and enjoying the work I have done



That is all that needs to be said really, I'm sure everyone can agree with this. If not, please tell me nicely what you 'disagree' with and why.

Have you seen a fellow named CAD? He messes with rips, a lot, but look at all the crap he can do.
Shows how this old engine can still do lots of cool things, which inspires us all to try something new.

Rippers learn quite a bit about UV Wrapping/etc etc as well, and other nice things like shaders which can then in turn be used for people making content themselves.



The only thing I hate about them, is when they flaunt them around and show them in 'WIP' threads, when there's no progress to be showing. THAT pisses me off.

I don't hate custom content I hate people with thought patterns like yourself. Ripping is only bad when the ripper doesn't give credit, Ríps without permission And/or brags about it. That's the rippers fault not the ripping. It also doesn't stop any newer people that could make custom content because it was their decisión to rip

Whats the point of arguing with each other if it doesn't accomplish a thing? There isn't a law on the forums that states that ripping games is illegal. Of course in the real world, outside of the virtual world, there are laws that is against ripping such games. If people want to do it, let them. Some might know barely anything of how to create such animations, model making, etc; but they would prefer doing somewhat of a quicker way in doing things.

Some arguments are good in giving people an insight of how it all works. It gives the person the idea of how they want to create or rip things based on their attitude on getting it down and accomplished.

Trolling each other like a bunch of children, however, is immature and would be taken less seriously.

I'm not saying that I'm on the side of the rippers, I'm just creating some center peace from both sides.

Spartan has been messing with rips, I really doubt he is learning anything from them if he is just doing half-ass effort in porting them to games to he can get a crowd of users to stand behind him while people who actually have creative effort can bring up valid points as to why he should do something original for once. And he justs responds with a crappy image macro or tries to get his personal army to assist him, after he feeds them false opinions of us. Or he just says "k" or some other simple post in an attempt to publicly display that we have no effect on his ways, usually by something along the lines of "i dont care" such as when he stated "they are just pixels on a screen, no one cares" and such.

If spartan was truly ripping for the learning experience, he would have stopped ripping ages ago and he would have actually made something that isn't based on someone else's work.


Also, recently I -repped spartan094 for his constant flaunting of rips on modacity, and his first response to me was to -rep me back and threaten that he would report me to Ghost for "rep abuse" the same way he reported choking victom and shadowspartan.

I don't think you get quite what halomaps is. Since the release of HEK+, you've been able to open the maps data and rip the tags out. Now there is also the protection part of this, which allows you to protect. This broke the community into 2 groups; People who think ripping is ok, and don't protect, and the people protect becuase "i made this, i dont want others to have it".

Personally, I could care less if its protected or not. That might be becuase I just make my own crap, or I can just ask the person who made it through pm, xfire, etc. I've seen my work been ripped before and made it to lots of other crap. I actually find it rather nice to see them rip it, it just shows they like it out of the tons of other maps.

Threads like these however do get very harsh, and trolling in them do occur. Halomaps is made of lots of retards that most likely haven't even hit puberty yet, so you should expect that from them. The best to is to stay out of there way and lit them beat the crap out of each other.

This. I'd feel honoured if someone would rip my map- it shows that it's good enough for them to want it.
