It died off. So I am guessing it is not being worked on. That topic was mainly for how they WOULD make it work anyway.

I modeled the panel, people complained that it was 600 polies, and if there were 1000 the map would lag (60k polies) so that killed it. My fault?

no, but couldn't you make a low poly panel, it is a panel, not a forerunner control room structure, plus this game is 5 years old, I don't think anyone is going to bother to look at a panel that much as they are falling...........

A simple 6 sided box, using the texture made by Conscars released with Revelations.

Or even a simple plane with alpha would work much better.

doesn't it defeat the purpose if someone can't play it?

doesnt having a computer that cant play halo defeat the purpose of owning a copy of halo?

Put it this way: The amount of detail for one panel, that would be duplicated too many times was simply too much. You can add detail in ways other than modeling them on. If it was just one panel that people would stop to look at, it might be different, but the panel is supposed to be as unremarkable as the hexagonal tiles in my bathroom (not insulting the model, just saying that it's not necessary). Imagine a50, with every single hexagon floor panel having an extraordinary amount of detail. I bet a quarter of you didn't even know there were floor panels in a50.

I just don't see the point of having as high a polly square as you can. It's a square, No one is really going to care how good it looks.

If many people complain, then your opinion will be disregarded amongst the rest.

If many people criticize the map for being laggy, then if you have your common sense, the authors will be discouraged since they know their map won't have a good reception from the community.

So no.

Ok, get someone(or a supercomputer) to make a map with 77,777,777,777 pollys. Play it. Yes I know I'm overexaggerating.

it is totally unnecessary to have 600 tris in one of those squares. pull an n64 and make a box with a hole in it, then use a plane with an alpha channel in the middle if its really that big of a deal.

the reason i responded to you is that if people cannot play halo on their computers even on low settings, then they have a bigger issue than not being able to play a mod

DURR, it's not the PC that gets fuxed, it's the Engine that can't stand the amount of polys, take for example z_sanctuary, some onscreen polies get hid sometimes

Well yes, a better graphics engine means better performance and rendering, but if your PC can't handle what the engine can, that's a problem. It's true, though.

honestly if your PC can't handle halo 1 you are waayyyyy out of date. The only map that my computer has come close to performance lag was L0d3x's b40 firefight, and that problem will be history when i buy my new processor on boxing day.

But what about an intel card @ 224mb video memory? Yeah, it sucks.

Generally, you should think of your PC's specs before the graphics engine, since if you have a better video card, you could play games with a better graphics engine.

so you should invest $100+ and fix it up
ive customized my computer with new parts, in the end i spent $700 and now i can run Crysis on the highest graphics settings at an average 27 frames per second.

Edit:
wait wut?? how are you addicted to Crysis if you computer can barely run halo????

Still, if it only runs on roughly 1 out of 5 PCs, then I doubt that if someone is making one, he won't release or even continue it. Here's something for you:I'll make a map for performance tests, and if you could run it without any lag at all, I'll have respect for you. It isn't just the video card though, sometimes you need a good processor, too.

It may not kill your video card, but get enough and the engine won't allow it.
Let's see you fix that.

Of course I won't kill your video card, I'll kill the engine like what CorruptedHalo says. Anyways I don't model, so I'll just kill your processor.

You missed the point. The Halo engine can only go so far, and no matter what kind of PC you have, you can't change that.

Or make an entire SP map ten times the length of The Library without scripts, just randomly placing AI encounters.

Scripts succeed where others fail.

(script continuous lag

No scripts means the AI are all placed upon loading. It's a performance test. A crazy performance test.

Yeah, Gamma's script places them all at startup also.

Even if you have an awesome pc that can run Crysis on high, making an excessive amount of overpoly'd models, your pc WILL lag. If you'd look at about 200 AI at the same time on Crysis, I guarantee your pc will cry.

Why waste a few seconds making a script you don't need?
