The ESRB gets offended really easily..............

Honesly, if you think Halo is violent then you should play Gears of War or BioShock.

Halo was before more violent games like GoW and BioShock came out so I'd imagine that they had different standards back then.

Ill bet Mario had a M 17 Rating because it involved fighting.

y know in halo (all games, in Australia) its rated M & that means its recommended for mature audiences & if under the age of 15 parental guidance is recomended, well to me, as long you are mature you can play halo, & ya know what, in Australia GoW is rated MA15+ & i was playing xbox live with my friend, & in a GoW game we had a little 6 yr old kid playin with us, he was very mature *sarcasm* but really i was lying, i think that barely anyone cares about the rating, in my friend's opinion he ses "If a game has a high rating that means it has to be 1337"...

Those people are obviously retarded. Who is going to go around killing people because they saw it in a game? Only the retarded kids will think that. I've been playing M games, and have watched numerous R rated movies on my own without parent permission, or consent. My dad doesn't give a crap what I do at all. As long as I don't go around doing drugs, stealing from stores, ect. I play GTA, and I don't go around doing that kind of stuff. I'm 17 now, but when I was younger. I used to play those kinds of games all the time. Do I go around doing what I see in games, or movies? No.

Originaly Halo was going to be a T rated game if you look at posters before it was released. but then later on once ESRB noticed there was one to many cuss words for it to have a T rating. if a game has so many cuss words it will jack the rating up to M.

People say that violent/explicit games haven't really had an effect on them, but you're wrong, most people I know who hadn't been exposed to more mature content until an older than other people's age I have to say are generally more mature and nicer people.

Moral of the story, a rating system is good

ESRB's rating system is terrible

This is truth. ESRB is a bad rating system

Example: They rated a Zelda game "Teen" :\

plus they rated a sonic game 10+ and they rated brawl and mele teen!
and they rated the guy game m! it should be E jk
and of corse those idiots rated the halo T then rated it M wtf!!!
plus halo should be m cuz do you want more 7year olds screaming in your ear?

I'm going to attack this part of your post because it's the only part I understood.
Halo already is rated M. Also, I highly doubt there are any 7 year olds that play this game. And, even if they did, they can't scream in your ear. They can only type through the textbox.

Manhunt was too gruesome that is has been forbidden, but noones gives a feck now.
Quote: Manhunt 2 Too violent
Take-Two Interactive Software said late Thursday that it had suspended plans to release its game Manhunt 2 next month. Earlier this week the British Board of Film Classification refused to issue a rating for the game, citing its extreme violence. That decision made it illegal to sell the game in Britain. In the United States, the Electronic Software Rating Board, an independent industry group, has informed Take-Two that it intends to give the game an Adults Only rating. The game was to be released for Nintendo’s Wii and Sony’s PlayStation 2, but those companies have said that they will not allow Adults Only-rated games on their systems. Major retailers, including Wal-Mart, also refuse to sell games with that rating. Take-Two now must choose whether to scrap the game or to remove some violent content in the hopes of securing a rating of M for Mature.

Times change, outdated product info labels don't, just shut up.

after reading all of this, i can only come up with one conclusion.

maturity =/= age

and no rating system will ever be perfect unless the rating system can actually read a person's mind for that matter.

im about to blow your mind.
Heretic II is a game that came out in 1995

it was rated T

Unreal Tournament 99

rated M

Conker's bad fur day 2001

rated M
and dont even get me started on this guy

i dont think halo should be M
E: and im not challenging the guy who posted about halo being bumped to M because of language, but if the ESRB is going to bump a game up like that SOLELY on mild language, why is it not rated for language?

Was a post really needed for this?
It says right on the box "Mature 17+"
It is actually a good reminder to everyone that for those of us whose age is far and above any ESRB recommendation that there would normally be an expectation of a certain level of maturity from the players and forum members who own the game.

If I actually enforced an age limit on the forum there would be maybe a dozen or less of us left. However the rules of conduct of the forum are based on what should be expected from someone older than 17 years of age.

The ESRB ratings are guidelines and recommendations for parents to make the decision as to the appropriateness of any video game for their children. Ultimately it is up to the parents to decide. I wish more of them would.
Edited by Dennis on Oct 11, 2009 at 02:10 PM

I agree. Parents should be more involved. I love my children and enjoy bieng apart of there life.

rofl u have kids??? wait like were you nailed when you were 15 or somthin?

Where did you draw the assumption that he procreated at 15?

Did all of you under 17 know that POQ Hitman has stated publicly and I quote. "If you are not of age (17)you should'ent be playing halo or be on there server's" I spoke with an attorny and POQ Hitman is correct when he says you have to be 17 but there are no laws governing the thought behind what he is talking about, Not on the internet anyway. They should also loose the "minor" clause they have in there charter statment about not harrasing minors. Hypocrites. They cannot press charges agianst anyone for playing halo. Thats just stupid. Do they realize 60% of all halo players are 16 and under?

This is the law they speak of..and I quote our legal rep.. "Those of age whom buy the game for anyone under 17 can be charged with contributing to a minor. You have to be caught handing the minor the game ,Physically, to be charged with anything at all and almost impossible to coinvict"
thought this was interesting. I keep forgetting this is a M rated game
Yes POQ has recieved a copy of this

Stores can choose to sell the games to minors. There isn't any law prohibiting it as far as I know.

Halo should really be T, except for Halo 3.

By the maturity of the 5 year olds that play Halo 3 online it should be rated EC like Dora or something, plus there's only a little bit of blood in that game, and most of it is purple, blue and yellow. :D Halo Combat Evolved is almost kinda gorey with the elites w/ holes in their chests and occasionally some guts when you kill flood.

People should be required to be over the age of seventeen to play any games with violent content.
Now I am going to go play eroge games.I'm joking. Save the eroge game part anyway.
