ATM i can only think of 3 things. -Renders have bad results compared to MAX. -gmax cant use Blitzkreig. -Different UI based theme. (not really a disadvantage but if you get used to MAX it can take a while to get used to gmax.)

I made it so the UI looked like 3ds max's in about 5 minutes back before I got max. The main problem is that on Max, editable poly is the best thing evar. In gmax, you might as well be using editable mesh because it sucks so bad. And headhunter, OF COURSE IT'S A SCAM. Meh. So it looks like I want to get Max 9, correct?
