Half the people that complain about rippers doing illegal stuff have probably pirated 3DS Max and Photoshop and tons of other crap.

These models have been out there forever anyway.

Shut the fu ck up.

Take it easy kid; Microsoft or anyone don't give's a shiit if somebody rips, by the way, nobody give's a shiit your opinion.

Take it easy, you're not so important; you can give you a head shot and nobody gonna give a fu ck.

GMax. Gimp.

http://www.turbosquid.com/gmax
http://www.gimp.org/downloads/

Both free.

Also you seem to have missed the point I was trying to make. My point is: people complain about ripping models from a game being illegal, when they steal thousands of dollars worth of programs, when they could just as easily use free software like what I've listed above.

Max can render, and has a lot more tools than Gmax.
Photoshop is a LOT more user friendly than Gimp.

Most tools that 3ds has wont be used by modelers in halo ce, and you can render with brazil.
Photoshop is a LOT more user friendly than Gimp.
Same as above.

Pirating programs and pirating assets and materials from a game are two different things. Its ok to pirate a program such as 3ds max or Photoshop as long as you dont make anything using and then start to sell them. That would be pirating, making a profit off content you made using pirated programs. Pirating content, material, and assets from a game is not ok. If you dont own a valid physical game, and have a valid receipt of the purchase as proof that you bought it, then you are pirating the game if you extract from it, or gain hold of any content, material, or assets.

And since I remember Beachparty saying he doesnt own Halo 3, hes pirating the game.

I've been modifying Halo relegated content for 6 years, and no one has C&D'd me. Quite frankly, my email only gets 6 messages at the most a year.

Obviously, especially when it comes to the $1,000(-/+) price tag, because high price tags are 1337 :D

Halo 3 is nearing 2 years old, it's already made Bungie and Microsoft rich as it is, selling millions of copies worldwide. Why, now, would they care if you took their content and released it to a community that has only about 200 people modding it and I don't know, 2000 playing it? Really, not many people know what Halo CE is compared to the amount playing Halo 3 or hell, even Halo 2.

It's not that big of a deal, get over the use of ripped content. The worst it does is affect how often your never-going-to-be-released map shall be played. You're having fun making it, aren't you? Then quit whining, it's not suppose to be a competition unless it's for a contest, which, even so, is also for fun.

Uhhh, I'm talking about business, not about the ideas about ripping.

I do not own 3ds Max on my computer. It never lasts long nor do I illegally have photoshop. I can talk all I want about how this is bullcrap.

Use Gmax. It's actually far more easier for beginners. It also reintroduces fun factors in modeling.

I didn't mean you specifically, I meant in general. I'm willing to bet over 3/4ths of the people who DO complain about ripping illegally own those programs, which is like the pot calling the kettle black.

Not really. It's still stealing, since you're using something you didn't pay for.

Its ok to pirate a program such as 3ds max or Photoshop as long as you dont make anything using and then start to sell them.

Still stolen.

That would be pirating, making a profit off content you made using pirated programs.

Exactly. People would be making money off of a stolen program.

Uhm. The same could be said for using the features of a $1,000+ program. Hmm, a $50 game vs a $1,000 program, I wonder what would be the bigger crime... Not to mention nobody can make money off of using assets in a game they didn't create. Oh, and there's NO PROFIT to be made from Halo modding since anything put into the engine then belongs to Microsoft.

Stealing is stealing. Music, programs, games, movies, it's all piracy. If you complain about one, you might as well be complaining about them all. Someone stealing a few $1,000+ programs, hundreds of dollars worth of CDs and movies, then complaining about people stealing a $50 game is complete hypocrisy in it's purest form. It's like saying "You can steal this and this, but if you steal this you're a baaad person!!!"

Seriously, just think about it objectively, imagine if instead of Halo 3 assets we were talking about some random other game like Quake, Call of Duty or Unreal Tournament. Nobody complained that I ripped weapons from Unreal Tournament 2004 for my mod, completely open sourced for everyone to use. In fact, I was praised more than anything else. How is this any different?

This is easily the best post in this thread. You guys disgust me with your attitudes on this forum. I'm not saying anything about the forum itself, indeed Dennis does a great job with it, but there's a reason so many people have moved over to Modacity. Its because every time someone wants to do something, you all start a sh**storm. Who cares if its ripped? Its a f***ing game. Grow the hell up.

Since people don't seem to understand what I've been trying to say, say it swift, sweet, to the point:

You can not make money from using ripping content, it should not be such a big deal. And you have no right to tell people how they can and cannot mod a game you do not own, nor should you care what they do if you don't agree with how they do things.

I'm sure Microsoft cares about people ripping Halo 3 ($50) assets no more than Adobe cares about people pirating Photoshop ($314 to $442), or Autodesk cares about people pirating 3D Studio Max ($3,100).

E: Come to think of it, you certainly have the "right" to tell people how they can or can't mod, but you still don't own the franchise so you can't force people what they can or can't do.

Photoshop Elements is okay to use, its like a stripped down Photoshop with less features, but costs less.

Also, I believe the CS4 Edition that comes with every CS4 program is $999

I got a drawing tablet (Bamboo Fun) and Photoshop Elements for a total of 90 dollars. So yes, I can vouch that it's pretty much Photoshop minus half the features, but it works well for what it's intended for.
