Why don't you shut up for once and give someone a break?

BTW, you can probably add a lot of detail, gmax5, if you just put some markings on the AR.

How about you actually just help him out, instead of telling him he has no hope?

I also agree the textures are terrible, so don't start to criticize me. Now, back to topic discussion, so this doesn't get locked.

The texture needs to have more of a metallic feel and more detail in it. If you want to create the bumps in the handle then make sure to Emboss it.

IF you want the texturing to be easy then make sure that the UV map is clean also.

Athough the criticism may be truth, there is something that we as humans have that is called emotion. I don't give a damn how bad those textures are.

If you're going to say that they are bad, you don't have to choke the creator with that fact. Just state it. Seriously, whenever people deliver criticism, I see a spoiled little kid yelling at another kid's bad effort, impatient and never pleased.

As for "babying him", you don't have to do that either, but you don't have to rub it in as if your goal was to ruin the creator's self-esteem. Keep criticism on the moderate side. No matter how constructive you think the criticism is, I always see some personal put-downs in them:

Quote: why dont you stop bieng immature for once and realize that the skin is just a couple of patches of color and no matter how much you baby him it wont get any better. as a matter of fact with some copy\paste or atleast some decent effort anyone could have done better

"Decent effort" huh? Effort is a relative concept. What might be "decent effort" to you could be "extremely hard effort" for a new member like gmax5. People learn with time. Don't rush them into learning these things at your level of skill. I'd like to see you guys in his shoes. It's as if you expect every member to present work with your idea of "decent" no matter what their skills are.

Honestly, the way some of you criticize, somebody could create a map of the entire U.S.A with no lag when played online, and you'd jump in to say "That mailbox is horribly misplaced."

I speak of no specific person, but only to the general public. I also used that quote only as an example, not a personal retort.

Life isnt nice, get over it, if his textures are bad, Im damn well entitled to speak my mind about it.

What you just said brought up an image of an unnecessarily angry and unsatisfied person. Of course you're entitled to say it. I don't recall saying you couldn't speak your mind about the quality of others' work. What I did say was that you need not present your dissatisfaction with someone else's work as if it were heresy.

If everyone truly thought "Life isn't nice," we'd have a world full of depressed people who would eventually lead to the destruction of civilization due to a LACK OF MOTIVATION. Some sort of positive force guides all of our actions, and that would be a search for happiness. Life is sometimes nice, and sometimes isn't. I don't give a damn if YOU think life isn't nice. Just because YOU think that doesn't mean you should spread your displeasure to others. That is immature.

Quote: Gmax5, you should try to get Photoshop and use some of the tools for fun. Also, another major thing in texturing is layers. Once you get used to that.... well, it will become more easier for you to create effects you want, with different tools. I hope this advise helps :)

GIMP is just like Photoshop, just free. It has most of the same exact tools.

I love how all the people on this thread are treating this guy the same way H2V treats most of your projects.

I think we all realize that this guys AR sucks. No need to rub it in or make him feel bad.

Agreed people at H2v minus rep me because I am apparently wrong. Lol I got mines repped losing 7 points because my criticisms wasn't harsh enough.

On topic:
Anyways this is coming along great. Try adding more to the texture.

Hey Gmax5, dont listen to these stupid flamers, you have potential. Just keep trying! I always start out with a simple 5 colour texture then in PhotoShop I use the Texturize and Emboss Filters it comes up with good results and its a helluva lot easier than than the perpixel detail these guys expect.
And by memory GIMP uses the same tools and features as Photoshop, I just use Photoshop coz thats the program I was taught in my Multimedia class.

As for You flamers, you disgust me, I mean this is meant to be a friendly community where we all support each other but I now see that some real jerks have joined up just to piss off us nice people.
If you want to continue this flaming then do it via PM not in a perfectly good topic.

Gmax 5 I think you just need a mentor of some sort. Or someone to ask questions to if you need help.

THANK YOU for saying that! Only reason I didn't post this was because I believed I would be flamed to hell for it.

I thought I would have been flamed too. Then again, I wouldn't have cared. Any flaming I would have gotten would have been used as more evidence for all of the points I made. Don't let fear of opposition hold down your voice. That's how they win.

Noobkilla you realize that skin you "made" is just the halo 1 skin with detail on it. It cant be used for this model because the UVs aren't the same.

I tlooks better, but thats not saying much. What you really need to do is look at some UVWing and tutorials and some skinning tutorials. Dano made quite a good one a while back.
