Quote: --- Original message by: Idaho Maybe you guys could scatter a few terminals in your levels, they'd be filled with observations made by Guilty Spark about the recent visitors on his installation? Observations about how the humans behave and how the covenants behave and what they think about the Halo (and maybe one in the PoA to explain further the Reach events)? This sounds like it goes against CMT's design philosophy for SPV3.. they're already expecting you to have played the game and know the story beforehand; the references are all there because they're expecting you to recognize it and appreciate it because of that prior knowledge. Terminals for more information would be cool at first, yeah, but what would they add? They're adding new environments and things, yeah, but they're keeping the main story intact since this is a reinterpretation of something that's already a thing. (Besides, Guilty Spark popping up before anyone knew what a Monitor looked like... um... inconsistent, much?) Besides, the fact they had to cut the Sgt. Johnson cinematic means they're running out of room even with Open Sauce. If TSC:E already pushed the envelope to the tagspace limit as much as they did, then I think we should give credit to CMT for how efficient they are with their resources... they already have a TON on their plates, adding more is just plain rude. (Also, if you want an expansion on the Halo world that's sorta adherent to canon, that's why you got Lumoria, Heretic Hunt, Composition and such :3 ) Quote: --- Original message by: Idaho I also had an idea for a skull, would it be possible to make a skull that'd make the player start every level without weapons and force him to find some on his own? I think it could be funny. This though. Not just for SPV3, but for any game in general.

Yeah I know this is a lot of work and that players should already know much about the Halo Universe but I was more thinking about inventing brand new facts, even if they're not canon, you wouldn't have to see or know who Guilty Spark is, you'd just consult terminals which would displays logs from Guilty Spark's observations. It'd be something like, you've entered a fore runner installation and previously fought a big herd of covies, then if you pay enough attention you'd find a fore runner display that you could activate and see some text appear (just like it was in Marathon or Halo 3, you'd just have way less terminals) : " ...Obvseration Log 045 : 343 Guilty Spark... ...These Covenants are very odd creatures, they seem to organize themselves like a hive, every race that compose their alliance has a specific purpose in their organization. (Here you put a little introduction of each covenant races) If my assumptions are correct, they might also have a ruling race, no sign of them on the installation though. They all take orders from an Elite chief called "Thel 'Vadam" at first I thought he was the leader of their alliance but he seems just like a bigger piece on the chessboard, I realized he also takes orders from outside the Installation when I picked up one of his transmissions... " I think we never get to know precisely how the covenant or the human society is organized in the Halo games, having a few terminals scattered here and there(not more than 1 per level, even less preferably) could be a good plus, as I see it SPv3 is for confirmed Halo veterans so adding a little of new facts about the universe could only make it more real to them. I can write the text if the guys at SPv3 don't have time for it, I have no modding skills to add a forerunner panel and make it a switch that displays text but I can do the writing, of course if the guys at SPv3 team don't like the idea, I won't push it but I don't think your arguments against it are valid, except for the "already lot of work" part. For some reason playing halo 2 and 3 not knowing much back story about brutes, I always considered them far more advance than the other covenant. So to me they would be the ones with better weapons but I guess I don't know much! I do love it all so far though, so great job! :)

Terminals would be great if they told some sort of separate underlying story that really added to the game.
ODST was a pretty good example of this. I found all the terminals on my first playthrough, and the story made the game much more enjoyable and rewarded exploration.
It would also give you guys a chance to give some unknown freelance writer(s) a shoutout if you recruited someone of the sort to handle the terminals. Attempting to help move some person(s)' career(s) forward, however slightly, is never a bad thing.
Or at least that's my thinking on this.

Ohhhh you meant adding Terminals throughout the series, not specifically in PoA. Sorry about that. In that case, yeah I feel like that would be a really interesting idea (especially the chance of getting to know about Halo-era politics or just how the Covenant impacts human society... as a history/politics nerd irl that's always been a thing I've wished Halo would elaborate on more). I just got the vibe from Masters' new video (Masters please correct me if I'm wrong) that PoA was trying to rigidly appeal to veteran players over newcomers to the Halo world, so I thought that was something to keep in mind. True. If it's anything like the walls of texts like in Lumoria, then I guess it shouldn't be too hard to implement. I'm still trying to figure out my way through custom map making, so my guess prolly wouldn't be better by much. tbh I'm actually a little bit interested in writing these texts (or at least seeing how they'll be made) as well. Idaho or Masters, is there anything I can do to help either of y'all?Quote: --- Original message by: Delicon20 (Terminals) would also give you guys a chance to give some unknown freelance writer(s) a shoutout if you recruited someone of the sort to handle the terminals. We've started work on the terminals (I have to be somewhat productive at work after all), and I think we have some good stories to tell in them. Right now they are similiar to lumorias in implimentation, but if there is anyone expierenced with UI tags or cinematics, I have some other ideas I'd like to impliment.
This is simply a thing I am working on while at work, and I can't let it occupy my time at home when it's time to get actual SPV3 progress done. So any volenteers?

If your implementing terminals then I have a suggestion to make. I wouldn't do them like Lumoria, saying from experience here, and would rather do them like a cinematic or some other kind of visual aid rather then just text, eg say playing a bik file on command (can open suace do this?) that way its more visual.
Either that, or make the text smaller (not in font size, more so terminal "length"), and allow players to hit a "continue" button while reading them at their own pace.

based on the vibe i've gotten for the past few weeks it seems like you guys are "winging it" to a certain extent, almost as if you're scraping the barrel to get certain things done or implemented. i'm hoping i'm wrong in the assumption that the carbine is mostly a halo 4+ design, because i wasn't a big fan of the overall "look at how next gen and different we can get" halo 4 aesthetic. if you guys decide to do a terminal system after all, the idea that appeals most to me would be to do a little something like have data pads or some other form of recording device scattered around in each level and maybe have it tell a story from a human scavenger/strike team detachment from Alpha Base. perhaps they were initially separated or became lost, or sent on a risky mission to disrupt covenant activity? anything innovative is welcome. one vital point i would like to make, however, is that you guys try to be creative and original while still maintaining canonical accuracy. for someone like me, it's a horrible cut through the immersion and storytelling perspective if things don't add up or are otherwise outright wrong. Edited by Bungie LLC on Jun 15, 2015 at 04:26 AM To an extent, you're correct. As you probably know, a lot of the core CMT members left the fold after TSC:E shipped, and everybody left was pretty burned out. As it currently stands, there's myself, Masterz, SOI, ODX and Kirby as well as a few others, but that leaves pretty considerable gaps in our roster to fill. We're not so much scraping the barrel, as picking up the pieces at the moment. Getting some in-game lore written is a pretty technically un-demanding task that'll help keep the creative ball rolling until we can find a few more contributors.

to be quite honest with you, i'd probably be more of a burden to the team than a genuine source of help. plus, i'm not really into the idea of dedicating any serious time into the team's' endeavors, as i have other things going on lately that need attention. Quote: --- Original message by: beaucephal
i see. thanks for clearing that up and putting things into perspective a little better. considering the situation you guys are in, i want to be the first one to wholeheartedly assure you that you do NOT need to rush to get SPv3 done. yeah, waiting sucks, and delays aren't any fun either, but i would rather the team take as much time as they need to completely enjoy what they're shipping out to he players than to feel paranoid about jumping the gun and releasing something they're not 100% on. patience IS a virtue, after all

The next Evolved map if you have ever looked in the UUI V2 is a library remake, that is currently in limbo due to changes made to the original library, and the fact that our "D25" overlaps with many of the ideas we had for C20:E, without having to design a whole new level. Plus one of our tentpole features for that map, the Mantis isn't going to be included in the mod anymore and would dull some of our more impressive ideas.
