I understand that but what I am saying is that from a business standpoint, if it brings new interest to a product, producers tell imagination to suck it. All I am saying is that now that the franchise has changed hands, be prepared for disappointment, because they wouldn't have bought the franchise if it wasn't for the fact that they full on planned to sell out. Sad yes, but it will be true.

frankly, by the end of Halo 3 there was no mystery about the covenant anymore. The logical thing to do is to start to look at the other things people are interested in and explore that, which is what they did. The alternative would be to make up another new threat out of no where, and not following the story and characters Bungie had already drafted.

They could've made a covenant group that made more use of slaves and forerunner technology while also using reminants of covenant tech. They would be like covenant except brutal. I do agree with you Masters, but the more logical thing to do is make a story about some new protagonist (not just chief reskinned i.e. Noble 6). Halo has a whole universe, why come back to things we know? Also just as a small nitpick I've always had with Halo, why can't the humans be as diverse as the covenant; covenants have so many interesting creatures that are banded together because of a religious goal. Humans come in generally marines, ODSTs, or Spartans. I do like the Halo ring though, it looks like a merge of halo 3 and 4s forerunner style.

from what I understand about forerunner architecture in halo 4, the designers mistook bungie's design to be "Gravity Defying and Enormous" with a tidbit of Majestic in there. That being said, they added a lot of aesthetic pieces that didn't really fit into the whole scheme of forerunner design. That's one of the bigger reasons why the forerunner stuff looks so different, because the designers mistook the aesthetic. (this was in a pre-halo4 interview somewhere, I forgot where)

Well this is Promethian architecture. You look at Shanghai and NYC and LA, you see totally different styles of architecture, and that's on one planet not an entire galaxy of worlds created over hundreds of years.

What bothers me about Halo 4 Forerunner is, aside from it all being silver, it's too pointy and changes angles far too much. It's much more complex and ridiculous than needs be. Certainly it's stylized and all that, but I feel overly much. And far too shiny.
It pretty much did the opposite of what the first few Halo's did. They focused on simplicity and a large sense of scale. 343i made it mega-complex and the entire structure just suffered in terms of scale then. It didn't feel right to me.
Guess they just fell under the next-gen idea of "more polygons=better stuff."
Of all the things in Halo 4 to make me mad though, it has to be the SAW just while we're talking about the style of things. I mean what the hell was that seriously (don't get me started on animations I will destroy you).

You go into ultimate 100% badass mode when you have the SAW, unlike any other weapon in the games (except for the gravity hammer, arguably). It's not too hard to counter but the large clip makes it great for CTF defense.

I mean what the hell was that seriously. Well Halo 2 had similar light machine guns that you could see the Marines carrying around, although they always set them up on a mount before firing. The Halo 4 SAW is sorta like one of those, except it looks like a Nerf gun. Edited by Echo77 on Feb 10, 2014 at 09:33 PM

I meant the SAW in terms of it's aesthetic. It's like, a box...with a barrel, and a drum mag. And an orange strip. And the firing animation is 2 frames repeated with no alternate animations (like the AR or pistol in Halo 3) which makes it look more fun.
Literally it's a box of death.

I really love all the details you're putting on the ring's decor! Great job so far :) Just.. the yellow ambient lights. I think the white lights you used in your earlier posts feel more Forerunner (since yellow lights are more of a human thing.. at least in Halo 1)...?

The circle of glowing lines is a bit out of place to me. It just doesn't fit, imo. Maybe replace it with several other rings? idk, it's op to you, it just doesn't look right to me.

I also agree, however.
Perhaps instead of using lines of light that extend out from the central circle, use 2-3 rings of lighting that go out from it. If you indent the piping for the rings as well, you can give it that forerunner light feel

considering the sheer scale of the halo, I think you should remove all round-edged parts completely as they don't look good when extended outward from a circle and directly contrast the hard edges. the glowy lines should also be either scaled down/non-existent, and the spotlights shrunken/replaced with light clusters to further exaggerate scale. texture-wise, it's a little confusing to see light grey as outsets and dark as inset on the outer parts, but then switched to light grey as insets and dark grey as outsets on the inside. for the cylindrical parts, take advantage of the large space given for those to create more interesting surface shapes rather than just a flat circle.

You should add some lights to the dark side of the ring - Forerunner installations are definitely lit up, always wondered why some parts were never illuminated (in the game)

...woah. I Like how you made that change, it looks awesome. The 3 bits of light that eminate from the long parts in the circular section seem to stand out a lot. I don't know if that's intentional, but im not quite sure how I feel about that. But I think that's just a personal choice more than anything
