Maybe get some better lighting on the stand as that is hard to see (assuming that you colored that as well)

The Shield actually looks a good deal better then the H2 one.

Gonna make the other two states as well?

Actually I think he (and I) assumed that the first image was an example of the Halo 2 shield, and the last image was your attempt at re-creating it.

Yeah, just need to fix the texture or what ever around the top edges of the rubber area. Unless that is how it is suppose to look like.

I'm practicing a workflow for the new version of Ancient Sanctuary. These were going to be the doorways to the different rooms in the bases.

I'm just trying to practice some custom texture skinning.

Pretty close, I got some inspiration for the bases from Selentic's structure on that map.




edit: It's 19k polies so far. (with turbo smooth) Although none of the bases are attached, those will have portals. I hope i can finish under 25k.

The map or the structure is 19k? and why are you using turbosmooth? from what i can see there is no use for it.

Its using halo2s chief visor cubemap,which is halo3s since they did not change it

Turbosmooth for the map, the structures are normal.

There's no point in turbosmoothing your map, it adds unnecessary detail. It also makes cliffs look "soft", which is completely unnatural. Cliffs are generally rocky hard surfaces with cracks and fragments broken off. Even the ground can still be very smooth without turbo smooth just by using the cut tool and adding vertices and smoothing it out manually.

I somehow missed that picture.
You can use turbosmooth to make cliffs but you should only use it at 1 iteration and only on very low poly objects.
This can also be done or adjusted the way Higuy said.
Also i like the map so far.

Just got bored :)






I know it's bad, crappy render, i think stupid model etc...I need to chamfrain some part and a custom texture for that. It's the first render i have made :( It's the halo reach military box.

People should make maps in a more modern way. Stick them in sculpting programs to add all fine details, which allows you to make extremely realistic cliffs ect... then bake normals ect in max...

I would import it into ZBrush if all I did was sit at my computer all day, lol.
