Wow, why the f*** did they make Spartan IV's? They should just add more Spartan II's. Other than that, this MIGHT be better than Reach. Maybe I'll give this a chance.

Spartan II's are all dead. Only about 5 remain. I think the UNSC will force them to reproduce in order to produce better candidates for the new SPARTAN program

It only makes sense though. There's Spartan I's, II's, and III's. III's have only a few survivors as well, but overall proved much more efficient cost wise than the II's (outside of the associated law infractions).

I'm imagining IVs will be drafted from the UNSC military branch and fitted with something between the MJOLNIR and SPI suits, probably leaning more towards the latter to make the most of the budget. These new SPARTANs will also likely be relegated to peacekeeping tasks, but they'll be much more...common, in order to inevitably face off with any disturbances emanating from Sanghelios and the various pirate factions left.

And like I said above, not to be gross, but offspring of members of the II project will be more than adequate for the requirements of stage IV, so in a way you may see more SPARTAN II's anyway :P

We must make the ultimate sacrifice- REPRODUCTION! For this is not for fun, this is for the UNSC!

Getting there, stock almost complete. Highpoly is first, then lowpoly.

You are modelling those holes wrong. Either make them floaters or model them into the model. They look horrible like that.

Some are modelled into the mesh, and others are floaters as it is easier...

Josh, which holes do you mean? I have added the holes at the front under the "carry handle", which where floating geometry to the mesh now. But the other 3 holes on the stock part are still floating geometry as the surrounding mesh won't really support them, be a pain in the ass to get them into the mesh.

Hunter knows I am in no way being negative. In fact I love how is model is turning out, apart of those 3 holes.

@Hunter; Yea, those are the ones I am refering to. It may just be me, but I am focusing on them way to much, because they look out of place. Hopefully when you make the normals and a low poly, they won't be such a distraction.

Ah I see what you mean, well i'm just rendering my progress so far, more or less finished. Just small details and a bit of tidying up. Need to add the trigger and scope as well, I have done afew parts differently to the references.

I will try and get the holes into the mesh, bit awkward but I should be able to do it. :) And thanks.

Here are some renders of it more or less complete.

You are missing a round piece on the front part of the stock, right behind the grip.

Record a video when you make the lowpoly, I'm interested to know how to make an accurate baking out of an highpoly model...
Impressive work, as always. But I still think you should try to make your own concepts.

That would be awesome, but then again, you have to thik up the concepts, draw them, model them, then bake it out.

Whereas: Look at pictures of it already made, model it, bake it out. Much easier.

The problem with recording is that I never work on models continuously, it bores me, I get distracted into other things lmao. I also have not actually done a successful bake yet, not really attempted, so you interest in it is as good as mine :P

You must know that's easier to make high poly than low poly. You've not constraint, and for high poly you just need to insert edge loops.

So I guess you just make the low poly right under the higpoly model.
I've been trying to make a scope that doesnt brakes the shape on this :

Not exactly... it isn't as simple as click and add an edge loop...

You have to get all of the detail in and support all sharp edges with edge loops, which result in alot of edges, you must work around these when adding other details as well and if they are in the way you have to redirect them.

Then you have to think about how you would get a detail into a surface like a curve, as pinching can occur.

I find lowpoly modelling LOADS easier than highpoly, it's much more simple.

Edit: And yes ODX, I think you will :)

Yeah dude, high poly is a lot harder. Not only because of the differing techniques, but also because you have to have pretty much near perfect topology in all quads. Anything else tends to cause bad visual errors. With low poly modelling you can have n gons everywhere and halo will just turn them into tris. As long as they're all on the same plane it doesn't matter too much (besides being a bad habit).

Phycological Warfare. The Halo 4 Battle Rifle is coming along nicely. Still, I really want to call it the FAMAS... I have a tendancy too... Maybe next time we could work along with a more, collective weapon. I still have no good ideas for weapons, but I could possibley sew some along. But, I really liked the Organic Weaponary from Half-Life: Opposing Force, they really threw something out there.

Tarantula Weapon?
P.S. This is not a Tarantula from my collection...

Im going to guess you like spiders lmao

Edit:
Should the triangles on the side - which have been present on all of the Battle Rifles apart from Halo 4 - be added back do you think?

Brief example, not final.

Okay, just a quick experiment that's all, to see what people think. I could always make a second version with triangles if people prefer them.

They look nice, but considering most of the geometry on the gun itself is boxy and circular, I don't think it matches up with the style of the battle rifle now. The rest of the model looks great!
