I originally just started making this model for the heck of it because I own the rifle. But I was thinking it might be cool to make a k98 and a few other WWII weapons and put together a WWII map at some point.

I originally just started making this model for the heck of it because I own the rifle. But I was thinking it might be cool to make a k98 and a few other WWII weapons and put together a WWII map at some point.


I would definitely play it, if you got together the basic armaments of a few of the factions, and perhaps a few vehicles of the era.

I was thinking it would be cool to do Russians vs Nazis, with Mosin Nagants, Tokarevs, and maybe PPSH-41s for the russions and K98s, MP-40s, and Lugers for the Nazis and then maybe have jeeps and tanks or somthing like that.

Normally wouldn't post questions here - but just to save making a new topic, and I'm thinking of posting up some stuff I've been fiddling about with (getting to grips with baking normals...) but what sort of texture sizes are good for use in Halo when it comes to weapons? I cant help but feel that 512 is a little stringent, despite the stock assets using that size. Am I just being inefficient?

Depends on the detail in the texture and size of the object in comparison the the player... i'd personally use 2048 for weapons and vehicles.

You shouldn't need 2048 for textures in Halo. 1024 is a much better option.

man that spinning animation at the front of the gun was so much better in an earlier
version you had done.

edit: didn't say why i think that...
it looks slow and seems like the movement is freezing, it isn't as smooth as it was basically.
i'm no animator but i see the difference.

Here's the deal with a Plasma Launcher.

If we want it to fire four projectiles the way we want the animation is IMPOSSIBLE to play.
If we want it to be animated the way we want the projectile will be fired ONLY ONCE.

Looks good, cept im using OS and why won't the normals show?
With normals, it'll look liek 1000000x better
because all the details are embedded into normals

It doesn't look any better with normals... All they are doing are adding a bit of depth detail in afew places tbqh... The texture it's self is terrible as it's probably 512 x 512. If not then it's just been stretched bigger as the details are blurry and low quality.

It is infact 512x
In Max, without normals, none of the details were there (CE image)
And with normals, all the details appeared.
And, the bolt could just be spruced up with normals and specular maps, all of which i have.
(OS 3.0.0btw)

I believe you can make what you want using the last frame of the overlay anim
It's used for max recoil

There's only one frame available for the overlay animation max recoil and the charge uses like 80 frames..

mb u can make a rotation and combine it with fire anim ?
I think if you make a rotation of 720° the frame will remember it so it will work using 1 frame. Experiment ?
