There many programs. The most popular is 3ds Max, but personally, in my school, we learn with Maya, because much societies use Maya.

Maya is more for film tbqh, 3ds max imo is better for game modelling. None are better really though, it's down to what you learn first and prefer to use. I have herd artists say they prefer max over maya even though they have used both. I personally have not used Maya (properly) so my opinion is biased, but I did attempt to and did not like it at all. Game Studios will probably allow you to use either tbh as they both do the same job.

Yeah, Maya is more used now. Today, societies want skills principally in Maya, 3ds Max is just a plus. I was like you, starting on Max thanks to Halo. But since I use Maya in my school, I love it. And now I feel Max so... poor. So, don't use Blender or Gmax (noob software), choose Maya or 3ds Max. If that's just for Halo, use Max. But if you really want learn 3D, use Maya.

Also stop saying societies unless you know what it means. lol

When it comes down to software, I prefer Max over Maya (Maya is more "old school" than Max in terms of interfacing), but it's important to learn those two with the addition of Zbrush/Mudbox. What concerns me the most regarding software, though, is what industry standards are and whether or not I know how to use the software for industry standards. In other words, some methods may work, but other methods are preferred and better supported by the majority of the industry. I'd rather be able to do my job without controversy than being hassled because I've been lacking industry standards.

Idiots. You work only on CE, just for the hobby. But do you have really work in a 3D company ? No ? Me, yeah. So, if I say that Maya is more used, that's the case.

I'm really waiting for you to prove that your "experience" is legitimately relevant to a discussion about which 3d modeling program is more effective and popular in the game industry. I have yet to find a valid point from you.

And what, you have worked in afew in France, maybe them select few decide to use Maya, doesn't mean the majority too. Pixar is mainly movies, like said which people generally use Maya for due to rendering, well from I have herd it's better for animation and rendering.
