Decided to try weapon modeling again. Also, if you all would be so kind, what is a good tutorial for baking normals?

CoD rails look like blocks of cheese on a shelve. And unsecured, and boring/lazy.

I didn't say that they were proper, they just look better on those particular guns. For example, the current rails on the ACR would look better than the regular rails.

NOTHING in CoD is realistic, I'm having trouble with the names even being correct.

yeah mooks see right up at the top where i posted? i suggested somebody post a diagram to assist with rail modeling. then aglion posted the picture i was referring to, +rep to you buddy. but apparently posting helpful pictures to assist modelers is universally interpreted as an invitation to flame.

Depending on what kind of gun you're doing and the amount of detail in certain areas.

would waste double the amount of triangles than the standard picatinny rail. It's all up to the artist and what they feel like, or can afford to do.

False, that is a style of rail found many types of weapons, it's all up to the company really.

That particular rail I've noticed on non-AR15 rifles/rifles originally without picatinny rails. The regular picatinny rails seem to be passed up for those ones.

Do we care what it looks like?
I never really focus on the rail, unless there is a scope sitting on top.

If you say that then you may as well say 'The thing about weapons is... do we care what it looks like? All we do is shoot at people, we don't really look at it.'

Every detail counts to make the overall look of the weapon, slight changes in anything can make it seem better even if you don't really notice.
