Does it really even matter?
If there's a trigger, so what? 10 extra polies is not going to cause anything. Even the most horrible computer can handle 10-15 extra polies for a trigger :\

No where in my posts did I say normal maps are not needed, I said for Halo they aren't needed. I am simply saying, professionals want to keep the models as optimized as possible, even if its only a few polygons. Also, the animation goes by so fast you don't even see inside the chamber.

Depends what kind of "professionals".

Have you read any of my past posts? http://www.thegnomonworkshop.com/ Read some of the biographies of the people that narrate the tutorial dvds, they are professional game developers, and if you can buy some of the dvds, and you will learn a lot about next generation work.


what about "professional" 3d artists.

They are professional 3d artists. Go to the link and you will understand.


Screw game artists, Im talking about 3d artists in general. Where all they care about is detail, and high poly.

Who gives a toss. If the creater wants a trigger then they can have one... Sick of all of this optimization shizen.

"Oh look, we can use normal maps there, oh wait, the game doesn't support it." - Disregarded for todays games.

"Oh look, its 2.9K triangles instead of 2K, this game is going to have like 5 fps."

game shave this magical thing called LOD's. And 3rd person models which don't contain any of the detail you would see in FP. yada yada

Most people have a computer from 2006 or higher. Some people upgraded.

Also its only an FP model, which only renders once for each person. The game isnt going to render someone elses FP.

So wy does it have like 5 sides on the pump...? Because the Halo 3 shotgun pump looks like that?

@The optimizing thing.
I have intergrated graphics... Dimension 5100, pretty old computer... doesn't run Halo well at all. So I am sure I will make LOD's so it runs well...

Fixed some shiz.

-Made pump grip rounder.
-Fixed sight, at request of HDoan.
-Removed point from pump barrel, at request of Moses and Snaf.
-Made wire thicker, at request of HDoan and Donut.

The indents on the top of the main weapon don't look nice :/ too round.

And chamfering the pump aint going to work... its still flattish down the side.

Okay, I don't want to seem like I am bragging or anything, seems as neuro from modacity says I am an attention seeker because I aparrently throw my models in any thread, although I used them as an example.

Well, I am going to use mine as an EXAMPLE here.



Make your pump grip, and whire, a bit like mine.

Fair enough, but make your wire fatter. The H3 pump is a pretty weird design though, hard to grip onto. And you should do something with the back grip, all I did was make it thinner in the middle, if you get what I mean, look at the wireframe. And it looks better than a box however simple.

Look at you, look at how stupid you are.
floating mesh is only one way of making a bake for a low poly model without much work.
If you perfer for renders and baking you can make it all one mesh you just have to know how to sub division model correctly before you do that.

Will rotate cylinders so seams are at the bottom. Final triangle count is 3874.
