Hey Dennis does this mean we get a new forum after 18 years?

Wonderful. With the shader fixes and now this, I might actually buy the MCC this year. It's too bad the modding community is just a bunch of Discord cliques up their own asses, or I'd be more excited.

If they directed people to this forum for mods, there'd be a major boost in traffic.

Since it's the same tools as CE all the resources here will be relevant again, maybe more people will come to the forum again.

Even if this was true, why care? Most of us left are just hobbyists trying to have fun. If other people ruin you're excitement you were already excited for the wrong reason.
hi jade

Anyways...

Messing around with the tools, they're fantastic, and that's something I don't lightly say about most things 343 does. Lot's of quality of life improvements and with FBX to JMS/JMA alongside Blender tools in development there's more inventive than ever to finally leave 3DS Max in the trash. Hope more Open Sauce features (especially shaders) make it in but what's here already is promising.

I care because this concentrated, monolithic cancer has consumed basically every traditional web site model, it killed forums and created endless safe spaces. I can use search engines to find important information, common errors, etc. Good luck doing this now when everything is scattered in various Discord servers. Not to mention that every one has a core group of fruitcakes who are up each others ass.

ngl I've been hoping for this ever since SPV3 but Reddit happened.
Now Discord seems to be the hot place but it's such a clusterf of servers and channels I have no idea what is going on where tbh and it's so easy to lose the conversation unless you're keeping up with it almost every day.

Can't agree more honestly, even when they try to centralize everything *coughreclaimerscough* it's all a steaming pile of dung that doesn't get archived in any way and will probably get deleted within two or three years because one admin called another one a mean word and he went AWOL. At least with forum drama it's more difficult for people to delete wealths of knowledge (not the case here since dennis mass deletes entire accounts over petty stuff)
There's also the fact you can have multiple people asking about stuff simultaneously in a modding subforum whereas a modding channel is way harder to moderate because people can't be arsed to see if it's being used by someone else.
That said, having people respond within seconds and being able to hold a conversation in real time is really neat and useful

This is completely valid and true, not a fan of how Discord is the biggest choice as it's an overall pedophilic service with how it's run that lacks any real soul. Forums were, still are a wonderful piece of communication but it's sad their time died like this. OpenCarnage is technically the new spot, but there's a weird lack of incentive for me to go on there besides mod releases.

I just hope any further documentation and everything else gets properly archived and preserved. Thankfully halomaps still exists at all because while old I find the information here still good to have. I also plan on working with some of my bros and getting tutorials out and I'll probably just make any questions asked their own video as well just so there's absolutely no question of it getting lost or hard to find.

Your reasons are a bit more valid than being upset you decided to act shizophrenic.

OpenCarnage is probably the ugliest forum I've ever had the displeasure of navigating through, how many subforums do you need. Even if the admin Tucker33 wasn't a micro-managing woke asshole like Discord users tend to be, I still wouldn't go there.

Well this news has inspired me to get back into Halo Custom Edition after a longgggggggggg absence (seriously, the last time I posted here I was an actual child, and now I'm nearly 30).

My question is, what does this mean for the modding community? Will we soon be playing Coldsnap or Yoyorast on MCC?

You already can, at least Yoyorast. Coldsnap is another story because it has a LOT of scripting going on

As good as discord is, it certainly has it's problems that have manifested.

While not very active now, the Steam modding forum is where I have started checking up on and will be using it as a new dumping ground for certain things so they can be searched and easily retrievable. With it not being community run and having an actual company behind it, much like the Gearbox forums back in the day, I hope it will be a productive business only crossroads without some of the more petty childishness that goes on elsewhere while maintaining high traffic (open carnage is great, but the traffic is low and almost all active users are active on discord too, so not much as far as discussion gets posted there).

I think we should all be resigned to the fact with H3 tools coming the CE scene will probably be even more niche than it is now, but there's still a lot of great work being done that should be made available and viewable to the H3 crowd, which is why I support getting behind the Steam Halo modding community which will cover all the games.

Looks like we'll be getting modding tools for Halo 2 and 3 within a few weeks, as well as steam workshop support. New Forums when Dennis?

If so, it's a pretty wonderful place to crawl up and die in
