So I'm following the tutorial here for directional lightmaps and whenever I get to importing the scenery, ect with OpenCOLLADA, Max just crashes on me during the import.

I just thought, ok whatever, I'll just import scenery with Aether but I forgot Aether sucks and that crashes on importing scenery in the newer versions of Max.

Anyone else get it to work/even try?

When i baked lightmaps for Hex Zone i didnt use aether, i just use lightmap eractor or something like that. Try puting manualy the scenery collision models on the mesh and render it.
I was trying to do this yesteday with ORFF bsp since tool corrupts lightmaps, but im not sure.

My thread is very specific. Has anyone used directional lightmaps and gotten it to work? I guess not.

I think the real goal would be achieving this without open sauce.

The whole reason directional lightmaps are even a thing is because of OS. Now if someone could make regular tool generate lightmaps faster using multi-core processors... that would be the sweet spot for me.

Could someone actually answer Matthew?

Googling found this:

https://bitbucket.org/KornnerStudios/opensauce-release/wiki/Halo1/Doc_Halo1_DirectionalLightmaps

And this:

http://www.modacity.net/forums/showthread.php?13546-Advanced-High-Quality-Lightmapping

Its probably not of any help whatsoever but I try :(

Let me simplify my question.

How do I import scenery from my scenario into 3ds max with the exact same placement and without a lot of hassle (like not having to manually place it one by one)?

I think the short answer there is you cant. Placing by hand and just plugging in your coordinates with a max to Sapien conversion should work

I've found that the difference between 3DS max and Sapien's conversion is roughly a factor of 10 (I think 100 generic units in max is 1 unit in Sapien, I could be wrong but that's what I remember).

Except there is. The very tutorial I linked does it. I am just having problems getting it to work. However I suppose no one else beyond CMT themselves have done it.

Nm: I installed 3ds Max 8 and got Aether's scenery import to work with that. Will just use Aether in Max 8 to import scenery then just re-open in Max 15
