Its been done, there are maps with flyable space ships (IE, Pillar of Autumn, Truth and Reconciliation), there probably is a limit, but that shouldn't be an issue.

Pretty sure there isn't, but you should keep in mind the limit of triangles rendered on screen at any time.

It applies to all models. Of course you can't do LODs on first person weapon models.
