And halo ce mp has gotten worse so many spanish.

The only reason I consider it dead is because of the lack of people making original content instead of blatantly copying halo-only assets or just outright ripping from later halos. . .

How the heck are people supposed to get creative if the only thing that ever gets released or worked on is the hundredth version of the Battle Rifle. Oh that's right, pirate the one or two pieces of 3d software that support animating for HEK. Just so that some poor sap can make a map -and assets- that aren't remotely halo themed. Gets boring when the only selection of tags you have for anything is: halo, or halo.

things are being worked on just no one is showing progress on the forums. mental is still around with a couple custom maps and two ported bsp's (three if you count altis's forge world map)

Dead? If anything there's more players then when CE was in it's "prime". I remember there were only like 200-300 people in the server list versus like 800-1000+ today. On top of that, it's nuts that a 12 year old game (that isn't even officially sold anymore mind you) manages to pull 1000+ players.

The 1k were always there, it's just that we have HAC2 that merges the servers of all versions now.

Not really, there use to be a point where you were lucky to have 400 total. The player base is quite healthy, although what the player base seems to be is somewhat of a disappointment.

You make a good point. One can only imagine if the people who port learned a valuable skill from these ports, like modeling, animation, or even unwrapping, and then used these skills to make stuff. Sure, ports has a luxury to use content thats already completed, or to aim for a visual style that matches what one has in mind, but one can always go play Halo Online or Halo Reach to use those tags. There are so many projects out there that are enhanced with these tags, like my own Sector 09, but new content is always more exciting.

I feel like the first half of the above description describes me in a nutshell.

I used to be one of the biggest rippers in CE back when it wasn't all that popular. I'd be ripping Zteams and CMT's maps without those ripping tools that made it so easy later on.

Anyway, I didn't do all of that by myself but i've learned so much from ripping and porting that I can now truly create my own content.

You really got those rose tinted glasses on tight. CE has always been like that.

Most of the biggest maps on Halo CE back in the day were all either Halo 2 rips/recreations, rips/recreations of stuff from other games/media, or mods of stock maps. Even teams like CMT originally got big off their ripped asset maps. There weren't many hit original maps.

Those who develop the skills needed to create their own content typically leave CE modding. They either move to other games\engines or quit modding entirely.

There are exceptions, of course.

I like that explanation. I can see maybe a handful of the people I saw eight years ago. A lot of them have moved on to ventures more lucrative than this game.

Conversely there's plenty of new talent out there if people welcome it. However, with the advent of one or two people making innumerable troll accounts it seems the community instinctively bristles toward newcomers.
